This weekend, I was invited to document a Hanal Pixán ceremony in 3 Reyes, Yucatan—a mayan community working hard on saving their ancient customs. They had told me not to expect anything crazy, but they ended up blowing my mind. You can read the full story in my blog: http://bit.ly/1P5OPBe
I got invited to take pictures at a very special Day of the Dead ceremony in 3 Reyes—a small Mayan community in the state of Yucatan. To witness this side of my own country, relatively unknown to the most of us, is such a beautiful feeling!
Hanal Pixan stands for "The Feast of Souls"; and you can clearly appreciate that fact in every altar around 3 Reyes.

Just one look inside the Choj Ha cenote was all I needed to place it in the No. 1 spot in my list of All-Time Favorite Cenotes. A massive cave full of columns, stalactites and stalagmites, with a beautiful area for swimming and another one for cave diving. Even though it is located around 30 minutes away from Valladolid, it is a fairly unknown cenote managed by a small mayan community. Definitely worth the ride if you're looking for a really interesting place off the beaten path.
