"Really nice chilled out environment, Really helpful staff, very relaxing with excellent spa treatments onsite if required or just relax with ambient atmosphere when using the swimming pool, sauna, steam, hydrotherapy area's giving it a pure chilled vibe to unwind, we booked an executive room with a canal view, just watching the barge boats go past whilst having a beer next to the water it was a very good & relaxed atmosphere, we would definitely be returning to the hotel/spa we had excellent weather that made our trip even better after a day of canoeing over the tallest Aqueduct. "We loved our stay at the Ancient Gatehouse. The room was lovely and looked out over the green in front of the Wells Cathedral. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before walking around the lovely town of Wells. Americans should know it is not air conditioned, but air conditioning is rare in the UK and Europe. There is a fan and lovely large windows. We will definitely return."

A very central location so great for getting around, but obviously a bit noisy until the pubs close. I'd check the parking situation with them beforehand - I didn't and then ended up a bit away as I drove to the hotel and couldn't see it but there is a private carpark nearby. "
