If you don't possess a driver's license issued in China, then you'll likely need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. It's also important to note that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your driver's license from your home country your passport and other forms of documentation as well.
