Once you've checked out all of the great sights in Parklands, there's plenty more to see in the surrounding area. Grab the keys to a rental car, toss your bags in the trunk and take to the open road. We've pulled together some road trips we know you'll love:

• Ashburton is roughly 55 miles from Parklands. Famous attractions like Ashburton Domain should be at the top of your list here.
• Your next pit stop? It has to be Lake Tekapo, which is around 120 miles away. Tekapo Springs is one local highlight you won't want to miss.
• Venture into the outdoors and inhale the fresh air at St. Clair Beach. You'll find it approximately 200 miles from Parklands.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in New Zealand, then you might need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country in order to rent a car. It's also important to note that if you do need an IDP, it won't be valid on its own. You'll need to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of identification as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card you used to book the rental matches the name on your license and passport. Some other things to note for international car rentals are:
