There's so much to do in Shaxizhen, but venture farther afield and you'll find even more magic. Pick up a set of wheels and you can wander around the surrounding area at your own pace. Add these fantastic places to your list:

• Hong Kong is about 55 miles from Shaxizhen. Popular attractions like Ocean Park deserve to be at the top of your list while you're in town.
• Why not see the wonders of Kowloon too? Notable attractions to see here include Harbour City. Kowloon is approximately 55 miles from Shaxizhen.
• Visit Danxia National Park to discover some local nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just relax and unwind. From Shaxizhen, it's 180 miles away.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in China, then it's likely you'll need to apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. Please also consider that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your current license your passport and other forms of documentation as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card used to book the rental matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some added requirements to rent a car internationally are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be 25 or over in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to what kinds of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before driving away. Usually, you can't cross country borders, drive onto ferries or go off-roading with a rental vehicle.
