There is long ugly gray motel in the back, where the rooms actually are. Our host was lovely on check in & I kinda feel bad for this tepid review but as our friend said "this place has all the charm of a upscale Motel 6". Our room was clean & ok for a nights sleep though & the price was right for us. Room 24's bed had the DREADED "constantly roll into the middle of the mattress" SWALE in it, our friends said, so maybe they could replace that. The motel connects to the mansion & your are kindly told you can come, "check it out at night & in the morning there is continental breakfast & coffee" here. I actually wish they opened the beautiful bar on the weekend so we could have sat there & had a drink instead of going back to the Motel 6\. Unfortunately, we were in the way back of mansion in a double bed room no microwave or refrigerator. However, Tyler the inn keeper was fabulous. Took my daughter on an under ground tour of the museum, laboratory & telescope. Interesting history on the Hartness House. Unfortunately, I stayed in one of the rooms in the back (which was a bit dated, but clean). Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pillows might be the least comfortable I have ever slept on!! We had a tour of the tunnels! Who knew there were tunnels?! There’s a museum in the tunnels and you can go inside the telescope that is on property. The mansion is stunning and enjoying a coffee and pastry in the mansion in the morning is lovely. Very clean. The bed and bed pillows were very very uncomfortable. Too hard. I had to go buy a new pillow at Walmart so I could sleep better. Coffee and pastries and fruit in the morning was great.
