Unplug! That is what I was able to do for a week in this simply designed cabin. Yes, there is no running water or electricity, BUT, you have the woods, the sounds of nature, a shaded cabin, a clean outhouse and solar powered outdoor shower and a solar powered radio/light for evening purposes. I did not have cell phone reception or internet connection. You will have to go to the nearby library in Damariscotta to address email and business online; but you will NOT be at the beck and call of anyone, known or unknown, who have your number and email address. THAT WILL ALL HAVE TO WAIT! And that is a good thing.
Hosts are down the road and provide delicious cool well water for cooking, cleaning and showering. You will have to become familiar with the “systems” of the house, I.e. put the solar panel and control unit in the sunshine field every morning so it can charge. You will be able to charge your phone off the control panel with appropriate charging cable. You will have to fill the solar shower bag with water in the morning so that it will be warm for you upon return—simple pulley system to lower and hoist the bag upwards to do this activity. You will need some upper body strength too, to put water into the bag. Attending to your daily regiment will move more slowly since the systems require your input. The outhouse is clean and one of the best ones I have been in. Most the time, I kept the door open to enjoy the woods. My only visitor was a spider.
You are a short drive on Rte 1 to Damariscotta and points south and of course north if you want to venture into the Rockport area or ferry over to North Haven or Vinyl haven. Lots of hiking and views of the ocean. The air is amazing here. You are close to the Jetport in Portland, a few hours away. If you have need of unplugging from the internet matrix and plugging into your own inner matrix, this is one way to do it.
