History Brewing

Founded in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots, the team quickly flew over to Milwaukee to relocate and become the Brewers. Before the Brewers came to town, the city had been home to professional teams, including the Braves until 1965, so Milwaukee was the perfect fit for the new team. 1971 saw the arrival of beloved broadcaster Bob Uecker, a former MLB player, almost-best-selling author, and star of TV’s Mr. Belvedere. The team had some ups and downs but acquired Hank Aaron in 1976, who began his career with the Milwaukee Braves in 1954, and fans were treated to his 755th and final home run. The Brewers were on the rise during the late ‘70s and finally made the MLB Playoffs for the first time in 1981.

The year 1982 looms large for lovers of the Brewers since that was their first and last appearance in a World Series. With Robin Yount at short, Paul Molitor on third, and Rollie Fingers, Don Sutton, and Pete Pete Vuckovich on the mound, the team was built for the postseason. Though they may have looked like they were competing in a mustache contest, the team stormed into the championship thanks to MVP and Cy Young Award performances. Unfortunately, the St. Louis Cardinals proved too formidable and ended up winning the World Series in 7 games with a devastating 3-run comeback in the final match. Since then, the Brewers have only appeared in the postseason twice, but they are typically in contention in their division with rival teams like the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Despite the fact that 2017 was seen as a rebuilding year, the team finished above .500 and fell just 1 game out of the playoffs.
