Indianapolis Colts Team History

The Indianapolis Colts were originally founded in Baltimore in 1953 as part of the American Football Conference ‘s South Division. Led by star quarterback Johnny Unitas, the Baltimore Colts won the Super Bowl in 1970 over the Dallas Cowboys. After a series of disappointing season, the Colts moved to Indianapolis in 1984.

Following a 3-13 season in 1997, the Colts drafted quarterback Peyton Manning who helped the team achieve their greatest success. During the thirteen seasons that Manning played (1998-2010), making eleven postseason appearances with nine consecutive appearances from 2002-2010. The Colts additionally won eight division titles and two conference championships in 2006 and 2009 and won the Super Bowl for the first time as the Indianapolis Colts in 2006. The team made history under head coach Tony Dungy, who became the first African-American head coach to win a Super Bowl title.

Indianapolis Colts Today

The 2017 Indianapolis Colts season was the sixth and final season under head coach Chuck Pagano, who was fired at the end of the season. Fans are hopeful that new head coach Frank Reich, who was preciously the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, will lead the team to success. The Colts were looking to improve on their 8-8 record from last year and make the playoffs for the first time since 2014, but star quarterback Andrew Luck suffered and injury that placed him on the injured reserve list. Unfortunately, the Colts finished the season 4-12: their first losing season since 2011.
