Earning and redeeming rewards
Here’s what to know about earning OneKeyCash, our new rewards currency that can be used on Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo when One Key launches:
- As long as you’re a member, and sign in before you make any bookings, you’ll earn rewards and collect trip elements across all eligible, global travel bookings made on the US points of sale on Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo.
- Here’s what you earn: Members will receive 2% in OneKeyCash for every dollar spent1 on eligible hotels, vacation rentals, activities, packages, car rentals, and cruises and 0.2% in OneKeyCash for every dollar spent on eligible flights. And don’t forget, you earn OneKeyCash on top of any airline loyalty program earnings and credit card rewards.
- The account holder who makes the booking earns the OneKeyCash, no matter which travelers are named in the booking. Planning a family trip? All OneKeyCash, including those from roundtrip flights for all family members, will be deposited in your One Key account. No need to set up accounts for your family members or children to collect rewards.
- Your rewards get bigger when you book stays at VIP Access properties. In One Key’s Silver tier, your OneKeyCash earnings go up by 50%. It’s 100% more when you reach the Gold tier and 200% more when you reach the Platinum tier.2
- When you make most ‘Pay Now’ bookings, your OneKeyCash will arrive in your account just three days after you complete your trip. For ‘Pay Later’ and all Vrbo bookings, your OneKeyCash will generally be confirmed 45 days after you complete your trip, but in certain instances it may take up to 90 days.
When you’re ready to redeem OneKeyCash, once confirmed, it’s yours to use at any time. Here are a few details to keep in mind:
- OneKeyCash can be used on ‘Pay Now’ bookings only and participating vacation rentals in US dollars.
- To use OneKeyCash on a flight, you will need enough OneKeyCash to cover the entire cost of your eligible flight, including taxes and fees, and may not add any optional extras like checked bags or seat assignments. You can purchase those extras after booking your ticket.
- OneKeyCash cannot be redeemed for cash and is not transferable to other members, but you can redeem OneKeyCash on eligible bookings in someone else's name.

Reaching tier status
The more trip elements you book, the more status you earn.
What’s a trip element? They’re the different parts of a trip—One Key takes every trip element1 into account and rewards you for it.
Trip elements include:
- 1 air ticket (one way or roundtrip)
- 1 hotel room night (each night counts as an element)
- 1 night in a vacation rental
- 1 night on a cruise
- 1-day car rental
- 1 roundtrip ground transportation ticket (airport shuttles, transfers, etc.)
- 1 activity ticket (a private tour, a theme park ticket, etc.)
1Trip elements must be worth $25 or more in USD excluding taxes and fees to qualify.
Your tier status
It’s fast and easy to move up One Key tiers. Here’s what you need to book to qualify for each tier:
- Blue - Just sign up, it’s free!
- Silver - 5 trip elements within a year
- Gold - 15 trip elements within a year
- Platinum - 30 trip elements within a year
- So, for example, if you booked 2 nights in a hotel and a 3-day car rental, you’d earn 5 trip elements, enough to reach Silver tier status in one trip.

How does this affect Expedia Rewards?
- One Key takes your favorite parts of the Expedia Rewards program and adds new benefits to help you save more and travel better. One Key will offer a faster path to tier status, as well as new opportunities to earn and use rewards on Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo.
- This is the largest and most comprehensive travel rewards program we’ve ever created. This results in some changes for Expedia Rewards members.
- You will continue to earn Expedia Rewards points on eligible travel completed before the launch of One Key.You will continue to earn Expedia Rewards points on eligible travel completed before the date you become a One Key member. You will earn OneKeyCash for all eligible travel in a booking, where the eligible travel is completed on or after the date you become a One Key member, including any eligible travel beforehand. There are a few other changes you should know about as an Expedia Rewards member:
- The redemption of rewards for Expedia package discount coupons will be discontinued. We are working to enhance the rewards redemption process for package bookings and look forward to sharing more information with members in the future.
- Our VIP Access property partners will only be providing free WiFi and late checkout when available.
- All eligible Hotel Price Guarantee claims will be honored in OneKeyCash.
What will happen to my existing rewards and bookings?
Your existing Expedia Rewards points will be converted into OneKeyCash and will be automatically transferred to your new One Key account. We will honor the existing value of your Expedia Rewards points when converting them, so 100 points will become $1.00 OneKeyCash. The expiration date of your Expedia Rewards points will be retained as they are converted to OneKeyCash.
You will still be able to access booking information, make changes, or a cancellation through the same apps and websites using the same account you used to make your booking.
How will my One Key tier be determined?
We want to give you a head start, so your current Expedia Rewards tier status will not only be protected, but we’ll take into account even more of your travel bookings to determine your One Key tier status. We will make sure any eligible activity in 2022 and 2023 (up to the launch of One Key) across your Expedia, and Hotels.com, accounts counts toward your tier status, and that your tier status is upgraded accordingly. *Note: The email address across your accounts must match for your activity to count. “Eligible activity” means a US dollar booking made from an Expedia Rewards, and Hotels.com Rewards (while signed in), account: 1) For Expedia Rewards, an activity that would have qualified for a trip element in accordance with the Expedia Rewards terms in place before the launch of One Key, and 2) For Hotels.com Rewards , a completed stay at a property of more than $25 (excluding taxes and fees and any discounts or reward nights applied) per night stayed.
For 2024, any trip elements collected in 2023 before the date you become a One Key member will count toward your 2024 status. This includes any trip elements collected in 2023 before One Key launches the date you become a One Key member from eligible activity on Expedia and Hotels.com. be migrated to your One Key account, counting toward your 2024 status.
Going forward, tier status will be earned on a calendar year basis, from Jan 1 to Dec 31. Your status for the upcoming year will be determined according to the number of trip elements you have collected by Dec 31 and your progress will reset as of Jan 1.

What do I need to do to join One Key?
Current members don’t need to do a thing right now, but we’ll be in touch with more information soon. In the meantime, members can keep earning and redeeming rewards with our current programs
Eligibility: In order to be eligible for One Key (which currently will only be available in the US) you must have created an Expedia, Hotels.com or Vrbo account on the US-version of the site or app (for app, the region in phone settings must be set to US when the account was created or when the app was downloaded).

How does this affect Hotels.com Rewards?
- By joining One Key, you gain access to the largest and most comprehensive travel rewards program we’ve ever created, where you can earn and redeem OneKeyCash across a much wider breadth of travel items across Hotels.com, Expedia, and Vrbo and get access to our best prices and perks.
- You no longer need to wait for 10 nights to redeem rewards. One Key gives you the flexibility to use your rewards as you receive them, on your own schedule and for a range of travel options including flights and car rentals.
- It's much easier to reach tier status with One Key. The tier qualification thresholds are lower, and more of your travel counts toward tier progression. Silver status, for example, can be achieved by booking a long weekend stay with roundtrip flights. Here’s a chart of how Hotels.com Rewards and One Key tier status compare:

There are a few other changes you should know about as a Hotels.com Rewards member:
- Our Price Guarantee Plus benefit for Silver and Gold members will be ending.
- The free upgrade to Avis Preferred Plus membership status will be paused.
What will happen to my existing stamps and bookings?
All reward nights you have collected will be converted into OneKeyCash at their full value and automatically transferred to your One Key account. The expiration date of your reward nights will be retained as they are converted into OneKeyCash. If you have rewards in a different currency, they will be automatically converted to USD before you join One Key.
Currently you can only unlock the value of your stamps when you have collected 10 stamps to earn a reward night. We understand some may be on the way to collecting 10 stamps so we will also award 10% of the value of each stamp collected in OneKeyCash. These will be automatically transferred to your One Key account and will retain their current expiration dates.
You will still be able to access booking information, make changes, or cancellations through the same app/websites using the same account you used to make the booking.
How will my One Key tier be determined?
We want to give you a head start, so your current Hotels.com Rewards tier status will not only be honored, but we’ll take into account even more of your travel bookings to determine your One Key tier status. We will make sure any eligible activity in 2022 and 2023 ( date you become a One Key member) across your Hotels.com, and Expedia accounts counts toward your tier status (based on the terms in place before date you become a One Key member) *Note: The email address across your accounts must match for this to be considered. “Eligible activity” means a US dollar booking made from an Expedia Rewards, and Hotels.com Rewards (while signed in)account: 1) For Expedia Rewards, an activity that would have qualified for a trip element in accordance with the Expedia Rewards terms in place before the date you become a One Key member, and 2) For Hotels.com Rewards an eligible completed stay at a property of more than $25 (excluding taxes and fees and any discounts or reward nights applied) per night stayed. Bookings that were not eligible for rewards under the Hotels.com Rewards program are excluded. Your new One Key status will be active for 2023 and will not carry over to 2024.
For 2024, any trip elements collected in 2023 will count toward your 2024 status. This includes any trip elements collected in 2023 before the date you become a One Key member from eligible activity on Expedia and Hotels.com.

What does this mean for Hotels.com credit cardholders?
You can continue to use your Hotels.com credit card even after we transition you to One Key and the value of the rewards you earn from credit card purchases will remain the same. You will be able to redeem your rewards not only on Hotels.com, but also on Expedia and Vrbo.
You can continue to spend on the card, and for each $500 spent you will earn $11 OneKeyCash that you can redeem on Hotels.com, Expedia, or Vrbo. Also, you no longer need to wait to get 10 stamps in order to start redeeming your rewards. One Key Cash is not redeemable for cash and can only be used for Expedia.com, Hotels.com and Vrbo.
If you have earned but not yet redeemed your introductory reward nights by the time we transition you to One Key, they will automatically convert into the equivalent value of OneKeyCash.
Your membership level will be determined by the overall program rules. If you were automatically upgraded to Hotels.com Silver membership via the credit card, you will retain Silver status with One Key as long as you’re a cardholder.

If you are a credit card holder on a non-US version of Hotels.com, before you become a One Key member your account will be transferred to the US version of Hotels.com where you will earn and redeem rewards in USD.

- By joining One Key, you are not only able to earn rewards for your bookings on vacation rentals, but you will gain access to the largest and most comprehensive travel rewards program we’ve ever created, where you can earn and redeem OneKeyCash across eligible bookings on Vrbo, Expedia, and Hotels.com.
What will my tier be in the new program?
We will take into account eligible activity (see definition below) on Expedia and Hotels.com in 2022 and 2023 (up to the the date you become a One Key member) and determine your tier status accordingly. *Note: the email address across your accounts must match for this to be considered. “Eligible activity” means a US dollar booking made from an Expedia Rewards, and Hotels.com Rewards (while signed in), 1) For Expedia Rewards, an activity that would have qualified for a trip element in accordance with the Expedia Rewards terms in place before the date you become a One Key member, and 2) For Hotels.com Rewards a completed stay at a property of more than $25 (excluding taxes and fees and any discounts or reward nights applied) per night stayed. If you do not have any eligible activity across Expedia and Hotels.com, upon joining One Key you will have Blue tier status. What do I need to do to join One Key?

When One Key launches you will be asked to set up an account or log in to your existing account and to accept terms and conditions. This will enable the set-up of your One Key account.

How to stay up to date on current rewards programs and One Key updates

How your simplified, single account will unlock One Key
- So you can best utilize One Key across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, your accounts will merge into one account. Doing so will ensure you can seamlessly experience One Key and earn and redeem OneKeyCash across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo.
- If all your email addresses across your accounts already match, you don’t need to do a thing! We will automatically connect these accounts and give you access to your single account for the launch of One Key.
- If your email addresses across your accounts don’t match, you will need to update them to match if you would like to utilize a single account with One Key.
- If you only have an account with Expedia, Hotels.com, or Vrbo, your account will automatically work as your new shared account for One Key.
- If you’d prefer to keep your existing accounts with each brand separated, please ensure that you use a different email address for each account.
- If you’d prefer not to have a shared account, you can delete your accounts (see below).
If you don’t want to participate in One Key or have a single account, here is how to request the deletion of your Expedia, Hotels.com, or Vrbo accounts
Important note in case of deletion requests and ongoing or upcoming trips: If you have an ongoing or upcoming trip and ask us to delete your account, our Customer Service teams won’t be able to answer any questions, concerns, cancellations, refunds, etc. This is because when your account is deleted, our Customer Service team will not have your deleted account information anymore.
