Good choice in Athens

Posted May 16, 2015
Pros: Predictability
Cons: Could be a less little pricey.
There are not that many lodging choices in Athens, Ohio, which is odd because it is such a great place to visit with abundant cultural offerings and amazingly beautiful scenery. This motel is one of the best values in Athens. Always clean and quiet. Service is good. One added feature is that it is located on the north edge of town, next to a garden/landscaping business, and there are plenty of opportunities for bird watching within a short walk of the motel.

Fair hotel. Overpriced for quality

Cons: update beds and rooms and facility
Near Ohio University but not in town. Price too high for quality.

staff was great, facilities ancient

Posted Apr 13, 2015
Pros: The staff was very helpful and efficient
Cons: the mattress
Location: it is close to the university and other events in Athens, but not within walking distance
The staff was extremely nice, helpful and friendly. The room seemed adequately clean. The room was very small, furniture and mattress looked as if it was from the 60's. There was a random roll-a-way bed in the room. It was extremely overpriced. If you are in town during one of the crowded weekends and it is the only one available, it is ok, but most of the other hotels in town are much nicer and priced to go with their amenities.

Freindly Staff, even while shoveling snow.

Posted Feb 23, 2015 on Hotels.com
I Drove to Athens from NYC, somehow I arrived much earlier than expected. When I stopped in, the front desk staff were super helpful in letting me check in early (like 10am early). The front desk person, I think his name was Jacob, was super friendly and welcoming. They had a cute set of clocks showing different time zones above the front desk, weird city choices/order though. The room was as expected from a days inn, nice enough to spend a night. In the morning, Jacob was shoveling out the hotel from the snow, he was very friendly and offered to stop to let me check out.

Good enough!

Look, it's cheap. If you need to get down to Athens in the last minute and you don't want to spend much, this is your place. It's not your place if you're picky and plan on spending LOTS of time in your room.

Had a surprise $15/pet/night surcharge. Stayed in an accessible room, and the clearance at the foot of the bed would not have allowed a wheelchair to pass. The doorknob on the bathroom was round, and locked me in the bathroom. The dogs found the rug and bedspread incredibly wonderful to sniff (never a good sign). The wireless stopped working after checking my mail. There was a heavy perfume odor when I first walked in, that was replaced by a sour smell. On the good side, the heat worked, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The towels were soft which somehow Red Roof can never manage. There was a microwave and fridge.

Pros: inexpensive
this is a hotel that is suitable for an inexpensive overnight stay. The rooms are small but seem fairly clean. The breakfast leaves much to be desired.
