St. Martin Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

With more than 200-plus days of sunshine per year, it is easy to see why Christopher Columbus was so fascinated with the Caribbean island he discovered on his second New World voyage in 1493. Encompassing nearly 34-square miles, St. Martin is considered one of the top destinations in the Caribbean. Discount accommodations only add to the appeal of this island getaway.

St. Martin hotels on the island's French and Dutch side present entirely different yet uniquely special experiences while visiting here. Hotels in St. Martin on the island's Dutch side aren't far away from festive nightlife, gorgeous beaches, and bars and restaurants serving up exotic drinks made with rum-based liquors unique to the island. Local festivals and events like the Heineken Regatta are big draws.

Duty-free goods, exotic food, and flavorful wines are just some of the island perks you can enjoy when taking advantage of St. Martin hotel packages. In fact, many of the designer goods sold on the island are cheaper than the same items found elsewhere. Rental cars are readily available when looking to explore the island as well.

The main cities are Philipsburg and Marigot. Princess Juliana International Airport, offering a descending beach view, is the island's main airport. Both sides of St. Martin are characterized by large mountain peaks and hilly terrains. Regardless of which hotel you book, you will have easy access to many prime island hotspots. Reservations should be made early to lock in a cheap St. Martin hotel deal.

The best St. Martin hotel deals on the island's French side present a more eclectic and sometimes exotic lifestyle. In this part of St. Martin, you will find some prime shopping destinations and fun boutiques, colorful outdoor markets frequented by locals, and restaurants serving up delicious French and Indian dishes. Cheap hotel deals in St. Martin still offer plenty of luxury and convenient access to popular island destinations such as casinos and sandy beaches.

Warm temperatures and a dry climate make St. Martin a year-round travel destination. However, this tropical getaway sees fewer visitors in the summer months, especially from July through September. This is also when hotel rooms tend to be cheapest. During what is termed the low season, many hotels offer specials, reasonable rates, and discounts as an incentive to visit the island during the off-season. Reservations at reasonable prices, however, can still be found throughout the year if you book early.

    "Needs improvements"
I had a great time at Riu Palace St Martin, however I need to be honest. Hotel is old and need updates in all carpet of rooms and halls. They are very but very old and stained. I was assigned a room with stained and old carpet, but after my complaint I was upgraded to a nice suite in front of the marina immediately. towels and lunen changed every day and in great conditions very white and like new. I want to thank the staff at the hotel that made a great vacation for my family. Entertainment needs a lot but a lot to be a real Riu experience. No service around the pool. Need to walk for drinks every time all the way to the bar. Buffet is great with many choices. Beach is not too good in comparison to other beautiful beaches close but is ok, secluded and calm. Landscaping would be beautiful if more rain or sprinkle system installed. I had a great vacation and I would recommend it as a 3 to 4 stars hotel, no more than that. Again staff is wonderful, and assist inmediately with any need. Only Riu management need to work on making a real Riu experience with the updates and work needed on property.

    "Beuutiful View"
The hotel sits on the ridge above Anse Marcel with breathtaking views. Anse Marcel is a very safe area on the island within easy driving distance from Grand Case, Orient Bay and Pinel Island. This is a small hotel with very friendly and helpful stuff. Every one of our minor concerns were promptly addressed (e.g., broken coffee maker). They drive you to close destinations (such as nearby restaurants and the beach) if you wish. The hotel room we had was very spacious and comfortable with the most beautiful view of the valley below. You can eat at the hotel, if you wish; they serve a continental breakfast (we eat elsewhere).

    "Best hotel in St Martin"
Wife and I just returned from a one week trip to St. Martina. We stayed at Alamanda and loved it. The location is amazing. We had an ocean view room, overlooking the pool. All rooms come with great views. The resort is quiet, but located between 2 great beach bars. It's also right next to the village, which offers great dining with an authentic European feel. One of our favorite things was the outdoor breakfast area at Alamanda. Great atmosphere, lovely place. Our only complaint is very minor, but the mattresses were similar to what we've gotten in Europe, but not nearly as comfortable as what most are used to in the states. But that was a minor thing. We will definitely stay hear again! Had a blast and met so many nice people. Can't wait to do it again!

"Located in a good location and far from tourists"
For me the best thing of this hotel is the location and the staff. Orient bay is one of the best beaches around St. maarteen and to be able to walk out your room and have the beac so near is a great thing. However it does need an update on the pool and the rooms. The pool is wear out and it was kind of dirty and we even found dead crab. The bedroom was very spacious but the bed was very uncomfortable and outdated. Finally as for the restaurant La Playa the continental, breakfast was good but the lunch was not and neither was the attention from the waitress. Overall it was an average hotel but not too bad ....

"An overall good stay with a few dissapointments"
We booked this hotel for our 21st anniversary and for the most part was very pleased. We checked in and when I walked into the room we noticed that there was 2 double beds instead of the king bed that was confirmed in our booking. I called the front desk and tried to figure out a solution but the offered me no options and said that none of the details in the booking were guaranteed. I even offered to pay more for an upgrade and the said they could do nothing. They said a room would be available 2 days after our check in but then we would have to move back to which I asked why they would guarantee that customer a king bed but they had no answer. The other issue that we had were several of the pillow cases had some pretty nasty stains on them and when we removed them the staff never put new ones on to replace them. The cleaning staff were pleasant and did a a good job cleaning the room each day. The security staff made us feel safe and were nice as well. The Sunset Cafe was some of the best food that we had on the island and we really enjoyed the staff. I would highly recommend their food. The beach was nice and though the seaweed was bad at times it was cleaned up every day and the beach staff was very nice.
