A Great Get-AwayPosted Apr 15, 2014
Fantastic food! Beautiful surroundings! All-inclusive fun!! Rooms are spacious and clean. WiFi is free on the deluxe wing of the property (adults only side, a bit more in price). St. Ann's restaurant was great! Make your reservation on the 1st day so you get a spot at 'reserve only' restaurants. Planning excursions prior to arrival is cheaper (esp. Shuttle to/from the airport).

Enjoyable first time in Jamaica!!!Posted Apr 14, 2014
Went for 5 days with my sister on a pre-birthday getaway this past week. Large resort with a very friendly and helpful staff. Spa and scuba diving/ dunns river fall excursion via catamaran available on the beachfront. Restaurants were good, but the buffet style meals were lacking due to temperature. Bars were open majority of the day and night, serving delicious tropical mixed drinks and red stripe. Overall, a great time! Would go back!!!

Hotel experiencePosted Apr 12, 2014
Pros: The room was very nice and the beach and pools also
Cons: more seating at the restaurants and more knowledge of their facility when you check in.
Location: We went into town for a day which was ok if you want to go shopping but other then that you need not go anywhere there are catamaran tours etc.
When you arrive please make sure that you make reservations right then and there we paid alot of money to go here and was not told of this so we ended up eating the buffet for our stay. When we did try to book a reservation the 2nd day we were there they said that all of them were booked up which to me does not make any sense. Other then that it was nice the bathrooms could of used alittle more cleaning I notice that the staff in the restrooms would rather be on their phones then cleaning.

First of many trips to Ocho Rios, RIUPosted Apr 7, 2014
Pros: everything. the pools, beach, amenities, shows, drinks, staff and views.
Cons: i'm not a big food person, so i thought it was great. there were a lot of options. I just wished there was more jamaican food and flavors.
Location: we did the 50$ excursion to dunns river falls and snorkeling. one of the most beautiful waterfalls and very fun experience climbing to the top.
I stayed at the RIU with my best friend for my 23rd birthday the last week of March. It was our first time to Jamaica and not our last. The resort was nothing short of amazing, we loved everything about it. we stayed on the adults only side and loved it. every single staff member went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. the entertainment team that works at the resort all day everyday really made the trip memorable. they are fun, energetic, outgoing, entertaining, welcoming, friendly and overall great people. there were always activities( dance classes, gladiator games, aerobics, excursions and sports). i can't write enough great things about our experience at the riu and in ocho rios.

Beautiful Hotel....howeverPosted Apr 1, 2014
Pros: The beautiful beach and the layout of the hotel itself. The nightlife was exceptional, never a dull moment there.
Cons: Management needs to revamp all of their staff -- they need to become more customer oriented. Food needs to improve with more variety and flavor.
Location: There isn't much to do surrounding the hotel, other than the jerk hut on the main road. You have to take a cab to venture out into the town.
My family and I visited RIU in June of 2013 and stayed for about a week. The hotel is beautifully laid out, wonderful beach and the guest rooms were nice and spacious. However, the front desk staff was very inexperienced and messed up our reservations putting us all in different buildings. They even went as far as to putting two male members in the same room with only a king-sized bed and said they could do nothing about it until the following day, which they didn't. They were totally disorganized and clueless. Our view from the room was horrible since we were at the back, no beach view. The maid staff was lazy -- our maid would come in to clean and remove all the towels and never replace them, we had to call to request clean ones each time. The food was meh...the best restaurants were the reservation only ones. The jerk hut on the beach was pretty good but the line was always very long. All of the other restaurants served the exact same food; tasteless, sometimes cold and, to my surprise, not much native food. The best thing about this hotel are all the activities and the nightlife; each night there would be some sort of show that was very entertaining. The next best thing is the wonderful beach. This was my first all-inclusive experience and I did not enjoy it that much, but maybe if you are into tasteless food, limited dining options, and bad service RIU is the place for you. I personally would not return to this location unless they changed their management.

Excellent overall experiencePosted Mar 28, 2014
Pros: Dining areas were kept extremely neat and tidy and the service staff was excellent. The entertainment staff did a great job. Very clean & well kept.
Cons: The alcohol is obviously not full power. More live music. The nightly entertainment was a bit hit and miss, but more hit than miss.
Location: Dunn's River Falls trips available by boat at an extra fee. Shopping.
This was out first trip to Jamaica and first all-inclusive hotel. Overall we were very pleased and thought the RIU Ocho Rios was a great value. We traveled with our daughters, 19 and 22, and they said they had a fantastic time. The staff did a great job of making it appealing to people my daughters' age but still kept it clean and family friendly. The staff will accept tips, but you didn't have to wave a dollar to get service. We were very pleased with the staff service in general. The Resorts entertainment staff circulated among guests all day and offered games and audience participation stuff all day.It was easy to participate or not however you chose. The beach and pool were extremely well kept, clean and tidy. Great attention to grounds and facilities.

Lovely room, great resortPosted Mar 26, 2014
The room was much nicer than I expected; comfy queen sized beds, nice sitting area, big bathroom, bar & refrigerator in the room (we were on the adults-only side). The food at all of the restaurants we tried was generally very good, though I'd skip the reservation restaurant for Asian food, and the restaurant open from noon to midnight always smelled funny, so we didn't eat there. The gourmet restaurant and steak restaurant were both very good, the Japanese restaurant was OK. The buffets were good - breakfast was amazing (go for the made-to-order omelet if the line is short). Lunch was better on the adults-only side than on the other side, though the jerk chicken shack was great. The drinks were great - we were big fans of the "French Kiss"... I have no idea what was in it besides rum, but it was frozen and yummy. Overall, a great trip. We felt like we got a great bargain (apparently 50% off) and walked around remarking to each other how lucky we were!
