Has More than meets the eye

My wife and I stayed just 1 night, so it was perfect. The rooms are small and very little storage.but if your staying for one or two nights and don’t have alot of luggage it’s perfect. it has all the amenities as a full service hotel for a reasonable price. we woud stay there again.

A bit disappointed

Our room overall was fine, a bit utilitarian but would normally have met our needs for our brief stay. The hotel claimed that they did not receive our request from Expedia for a non-smoking room - and that they have very few non-smoking rooms available at all. We just thought the room was musty smelling and did not realize until we found an ashtray that they’d given us a smoking room. They also allow dogs at the hotel, which I did not know - and wound up having to use my inhaler to kill an asthma attack - as the air conditioning in our room did not work properly - all of which we did not realize until we got back to our room at 2am. They did send up a maintenance person very promptly, who tried his best but thought that our room was just too far away from the main system to get enough cold air to chill the room. They offered to change our room, but since we were only staying the one night there was little point in moving for the few hours we had left. In their price range, there are numerous other hotels in the area where we have enjoyed more pleasant stays, and will likely use those in the future.

Room-Mate Grace, a unique hotel at a great price

I thought Room-Mate Grace was a very unique hotel in NY. I really liked the retro feel of the hotel. Loved the texture wallpaper and how the rooms are designed. The indoor pool was amazing. And service was very friendly. Only thing I would have liked to see was more storage/dressers in the room. had a small closet and no towel bars by the shower. Overall stay was very enjoyable and would recommend Room-Mate Grace to friends.

Excellent location, tiny tiny rooms, no closet space

The hotel was exactly what we needed with regards to location: half a block from Time Square. Overall, the hotel is really hip and modern. The only minus is that the small rooms can be tiny (they vary in sizes) and there is almost no closet space. So if you re planning on going for more than 2 or 3 days: beware you ll use your suitcase as a closet. Moreover, the gym is not really equipped (two bikes), so do your excercises outside! We had a good time and the service was excellent,as was breakfast (which is included), but we feel they should spend more time rethinking the room design and specially, the closet space.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

At the front desk, you ll find major magazines to buy. Do purchase Time Out NY for an overview of what new each week. Enjoy!

Great hotel, noisy air conditioner

We stayed at Hotel Grace for three nights in mid April. The room was comfortable and clean, definitely large enough for two people. We had one of the rooms with no door on the bathroom, which was fine for us, but I think it would be weird if I was traveling with someone other than my husband -- not enough privacy. The only thing we didn’t like was the air conditioner. It was extremely loud and would wake us with a loud clunk several times during the night. On the second night, we turned it off and the room got a bit stuffy and warm, but not too bad since it was mid April. During summer, this wouldn’t be an option, so I guess we would just have to live with the noisy AC unit. It was also a bit difficult to control the temperature. We didn’t use the pool or the bar, but the free breakfast was very nice. The breakfast area was uncomfortably warm, though, and there was never enough seating. No big deal, we just took our breakfast back up to our room. I would stay here again, but only if the rate was substantially lower than other hotels in the area. It obviously cannot compete with places like Sofitel or Bryant Park when it comes to luxury, but our Expedia special rate at Hotel Grace was less than half of the rate at Sofitel, and we thought it was a great bargain.

Very Impressed

- We really enjoyed the breakfast every morning - We really enjoyed the room and the FRIENDLY staff - The pool was very nice - The PROBLEMS were the PARTIES they host monday and tuesday night... We were at 13th floor, we did not hear anything but some guest from the 3rd floor were complaining next morning. JUST MAKE SURE YOUR ROOM IS NOT IN THE 3RD OR 4TH floors. Overall GREAT EXPERIENCE...THE LOCATION AND THE STAFF WERE PERFECT!!!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Perfect Location; Friendly Staff; Great Hotel and Delicious Breakfast... Just the parties on Monday & Tuesday Nights bothered a little bit ;-)

BEWARE OF MONDAY NIGHTS

My best friend and I stayed at Room Mate Grace during out Spring break and decided to stay there because of the location being close to Times Square. Times Square was literally at the end of our street. The location couldn’t be beat for the price! When we checked in on Monday night after flying in in to Laguardia we noticed that there was a very modern pool and bar just beyond the check in desk. When we arrived at 10:30pm the hotel was playing some trendy dance music while people were hanging out in the pool. No Big Deal. After leaving our things at the hotel we decided to do some late night sight seeing. When we returned to the hotel at around 1:15am THE HOTEL HAD TURNED INTO A CLUB/POOL PARTY!! The entire first floor of the hotel was filled with about 150-200 people! The music was very loud and the the party was EXTREMELY WILD! The pool was jam packed with people drinking and "having a good time". The crowd that was at the party were mostly men....if you get the idea. The hotel staff told us that Monday was the only night of the week that this happened. Overall the hotel was great for the money, however, it is definitely a for the young at heart. If you are not into modern hotels and trendy atmospheres than this in not the hotel for you. Also, if you are traveling with children than you may want to choose to stay somewhere else where there is less noise and a more controlled first floor. All in all, out time at the hotel was great..just be warned about Monday nights!

If your traveling with small children than you may want to choose somewhere else that is a little less Trendy and Modern. The hotel rooms are very small and the hotel attracts a very young crowd.

Time Square’s hidden gem

Could not find a better location for this hotel, a few steps from Times Square, and walk distance to Rockfeller Center. Hotel staff was very cordial and did not hesitate to help us. Cannot get a better rate for a comfy and trendy hotel that provides wi-fi and the better continental breakfast I have ever had in a hotel.

You must stay here, its amazing!!!!!!

- Brilliant location, 30 seconds from Times Square and absolutely no noise!!! - the most comfortable bed you could imagine! - funky room (some reports say small), yeah smallish but typical NYC hotel standard size...def not too small - Very modern design rooms - Cool staff, very friendly, welcoming and helpful - Pool, relax by day party by night and you cannot hear the music up in the rooms once you leave!

Would definately make this a place to go back to!!!

This was a fantastic find in a great location. Everyone and everything exceeded our expectations. The continental breakfast was one of the best I’ve seen offered. I would highly recommened this to all my friends. Probably not a great place for kids.

Reviews were right

I read alot of reviews of many hotels to choose from before I booked my trip to New York City. Hotel Grace had a 4.6 rating. That is why I ultimately chose it, and the reviews were right on. It was a great hotel! I had read the rooms were small but they were not as small as I had expected, and it was very comfortable. The bed was great! It was actually the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel It has no bath tub but has a fantastic shower. I never take a bath when I am in a hotel, just a shower, so I did not miss the bath at all. Overall, it was a very comfortable room and I was extremely satisfied! And it was quiet. I stayed on the 10th floor. There is a little club downstairs and it gets loud. I’m not sure you can hear it on lower floors, but I heard nothing. The staff were also very cordial and helpful. The hotel has a great location, especially if you are going to Broadway shows. They are all within a 10 minute walk. A subway station is nearby for places too far to walk. Basically, you can’t beat the location. I would highly recommend Room-Mate Grace to anyone. And just a side note...Expedia was fantastic!!! The whole trip went without one single problem

Traveler's tip on nightlife

It is a great place to stay for seeing Broadway shows because the hotel is right off of Broadway at Times Square

Cozy and Comfortable for 1 or 2 people

Booked into a standard room. Bed and sheets were nice, clean and comfortable. Stylish and cozy with the limited size. Location was great with a walking distance to Times Square under a minute. Subway within 4 minutes walk and food is everywhere around.

Okay if location is your only requirement

Hotel has a great location for Broadway and Times Square. The thermostat in our room didn’t work and no attempt was made to fix it. The hotel has a nice bar and pool that must not be for guests. It was reserved the two nights we were there for loud private parties. This hotel is not appropriate for children.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Do not stand in the long lines at TKTS for Broadway shows. Show up in the last hour before the show for a shorter line and you will still find tickets.

Very small, but good value!

As per the internet picture the room is very small. The location and price was just right and worth tolerating the size. They have a great breakfast. It is all very European.

Very cool, hip hotel off Times Square

Finding a hotel with an indoor pool (including swim-up bar), sauna and steam room in the heart of Midtown was a coup. The rooms are smallish, but totally adequate with nice beds and nice bathrooms. The decor is very basic but modern and everything was clean. The location is prime for both sight-seeing and business in midtown and close to many subway lines. The breakfast is actually a very good continental breakfast - I’m picky and it had everything I wanted and more. The lounge on the second floor had great space to work and hold meetings and the bar on the first floor was a great place to hang. My only complaints were the TINY gym room with broken equipment and that the free wireless was very spotty in my room. I will definitely come back again.

Not too shabby!

Upon hearing that our travel to NYC was less than stellar, the clerk proceeded to give us complimentary drinks and was very very polite. All of the clerks were helpful in answering any questions that we had.

A lot of warmth in a cold January stay.

This hotel was amazing for me and my girlfriend. I planned on proposing to my girlfriend while we were in New York, and I emailed Roommate Grace and informed them, and asked for an upgrade. They put us on the top floor with a wonderful room, which I can only assume was a big upgrade from our purchase. The breakfast was delightful and every member of the staff was pleasant and made us feel at home. Also, I had them put roses and champagne in the room for when we got back to celibrate, and they did so with a wonderful bouquet and my choice of bubbly. The room was great, I loved the shower and the extremely comfortable bed, plus the temperature was easy to figure out and after the first 20 minutes or so it was extremely comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel to couples and anyone else in all age groups. Oh, the room was really large for New York as well. This was a great value, especially since it was less than a block from Time Square, but the noise was slim to none. Thanks to everyone at the hotel.

Get a subway map if you are unfamiliar with the area, it will help you out a great deal.

Great Place

The room and price/value we got is an excellent choice for anyone, IF they do not mind having a very small bedroom. The bedroom we had was not much bigger than the bed, with a small table to work at. Breakfast and wifi connection was included in price. All staff we met were extremely friendly and helpful. Location is great, right off Times Square. Again, if you do not need any extra space in bedroom, this is a wonderful place.

Can’t wait to go back!

Everything about this hotel was wonderful! The staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. It had a B & B kind of feeling. The pool and steam room were wonderful. They keep the pool on the warm side - just perfect for hanging out, socializing, relaxing. They have a big screen which shows movies, superbowl, etc. The sound system is very well done and the D.J. does a great job, also. All while enjoying the pool. The poolside (swimup) bar is definitely a plus. The location is perfect for Times Square, Broadway shows, subway, etc. I will definitely stay there again when in New York.

Quality Budget hotel

Grace offers decent quality for a great price. Nothing about the hotel blew me away- however, it was decent, clean, friendly and the pool/sauna/steamer are a bonus for budget travler [especially in winter!]. Rooms are small, bed & linens exceptional, location very convenient.
