Not Impressed
This hotel has seen its better days. It could be avery charming place with some rennovations. I found hair in my bed, and it took forever for the staff to rectify the situation. The room was dusty and not well maintained. The location was ok. There is not much in the way of eating in the area. Next time I am going to try the Jefferson Hotel.
Go to Bygones vintage store.

Hotel in serious need of updating
Sadly, the owners of this once lovely hotel have allowed it to get rundown. The Garden rooms are dark and small with furnishings that look like they havent been updated since the 80s. Linden Row still has charm but its clear the owners arent interested in maintaining it as a 4-star hotel and letting it slide in quality.

Great place to stay
A very interesting place to stay. We stayed in the Garden Suites which are seperate from the main hotel. The first room was a little bigger, but both were very comfortable. A little noise from the guests overhead, but that is to be expected in an old building. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was arbitary - the usual type of included breakfast one gets everywhere. Location is great - very central, but it does not feel you are in the middle of a city. On street parking did not seem to be an issue - we found it all the time.

Linden Row--Charm, Character, Great Service
This is an excellent small hotel, conveniently located in downtown Richmond. The people working there were friendly and provided great service. I especially liked having a room facing the courtyard--off the street, private and a very attractive setting. They have a free shuttle service, too, which was a great help to me in getting to my business seminar. Id definitely stay there again.
Traveler's tip
Staying here can save the hassle of driving around to get where you want to go. They have valet parking for $10.50 per day and the hotel shuttle can get you to a lot of places in the downtown area.

Never Going Back
Im not usually the kind of person to write hotel reviews, but my experience at the Linden Row was so bad I had to warn others. The hotel is a collection of colonial townhouses which should be cool. The catch is that the place has not aged well. The entire hotel feels like a cheap motel, not the historic hotel advertised. Besides the terrible interior decoration the staff was surely and unhelpful. When asked about parking regulations in the area the looked at me as if I was from the moon. Dont even think about asking for directions. They dont do that either.

A quality and unique Richmond experience.
This is a charming hotel, located right in the heart of Richmond. It was truly a unique experience because the hotel was located in a building from the 1800s, that had been refurbished. We had a cocktail in the parlor, enjoyed our private hallway with great Richmond views, and absolutely loved the Old-Richmond style charm of the decor and the furnishings. A chauffer was on-hand to take us to nearby restaurants, attractions and bars - all free of charge. The staff was courteous and helpful. The rooms are very private, and the walls are so insulated that we didnt hear a peap out of anyone of anything all night. I hope to have the opportunity to stay there again and I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. Its cheaper than many "chain" hotels and offers so much more.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
I would suggest taking advantage of the many services the hotel offers, like the chauffer service, the outdoor deck, the fancy breakfast, and the stylish parlor. Maymont Park, dozens of phenomenal restuarants and bars are all within a few miles of the hotel, and experiencing the Sunday Brunch at the Jefferson is a must! This would be a great hotel to stay for a couples getaway to Richmond, or for a girls weekend. I highly recommend it.

Loved this hotel
We enjoyed a wonderful stay in this hotel. It was conveniently located near all of the sites that we wanted to see. We could walk to most of them, but if we preferred we could be shuttled free of charge by the hotel. Everyone was fairly helpful and friendly. We loved the historical aspects of the hotel. Really very lovely.

Wish I could have stayed longer
I was on a business trip and wanted a place from which I could walk to downtown. I arrived after 10 pm and then checked out the next morning at 9 am. However, for the brief period of time that I was there I was impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the very interesting architecture of the hotel. My walk to downtown was easy and seemingly downhill. I would definitely return to this hotel.

CAnt Believe it is part of Historic Inns Group
This hotel is grim and dingy. My room was in one of the back buildings and every sound from every room could be heard. On the first morning I was there I had to kill a huge roach in the bathtub. I asked the desk clerk about a a particular city tour and he said "We do not know anything about that" and offered no help . The breakfast was awful, the plants in the gardens were dead. This place needs someone who really cares because obviosuly the current management does not.

This hotel is really worth trying. The historical setting is unique. You get a taste of real Richmond. I do recommend it.

Interesting historic hotel
Not your typical modern cookie-cutter hotel. Courtyard layout makes you feel away from the city despite being right downtown. Very nice. Staff was great. Very friendly.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Great beer pub (Capitol Ale House) a few blocks away on Main St for beer lovers.

Its in the hood.
I was shocked when I saw where this hotel is located. If it had not been so late in the evening, I would have cancelled. Its located in a nasty part of Richmond where most shops and stores are boarded up. The room we were assigned was TINY, and looked like my grandmothers guest room. Moreover, there were NO elevators and LOTS of stairs leading to our room, which appeared to be located in an old servants quarters or something. It was not even part of the main hotel. Ugh. I was so embarrassed; I took my fiance there to give him a "Richmond" experience. He got one, alright; just not the one I wanted him to have.

A great experience
Pros: The Linden Row Inn has a lot of character and charm. I enjoyed the spacious room with nice furniture and a newly-redone bathroom. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, and went the extra mile to treat their customers well. Shuttle service. Great breakfast. Within walking distance to downtown. Cons: The free wireless internet access was very slow (I had to turn off the "load images automatically" preference on my browser to get a decent speed). The neighborhood around the hotel didnt seem safe for walking late at night. I was more than fine during the day, though, and the Linden Row Inn offers free shuttle service. There are a couple of excellent restaurants within three blocks of the hotel: Tarrants, Comfort, and Twenty-seven.

Historic and comfortable
I enjoyed my stay at the charming Linden Row Inn. While the hotel and my room were quaint and very old, my bathroom was very new and up to date and large. Nice. The towels were the softest Ive ever experienced. I had to park "on the street", but finding a convenient spot was easy. Finding food was a little trickier. There was a continental breakfast provided free, but I dont like to eat pastry for breakfast. And while there was a list of "nearby" restaurants provided, there were none clearly visible in the immediate vicinity. It was raining hard while I was there and I didnt feel like walking in the rain to find a place nearby. So I typically had coffee in my room and drove somewhere for meals. Im picky about food and Richmond has plenty of good places to eat, just not at, or very close to, Linden Row Inn - at least not that I could see. But the hotel was conveniently located between down town and the Fan district, so it was an easy drive to find a place to eat.

Great alternative to chain hotels
I had stayed at the Linden Row several years ago and remembered it as being comfortable. Cudos on the beautiful bathrooms and the fabulous bed. Breakfast was just OK, were it not for the waffles and bananas I would not have found it appealing. The bagels and pastry looked tired. Yogurt would be a nice addition.
Traveler's tip on dining
Tarents, which is two blocks away on Broad Street, has a wonderful menu.

Great Value Near VCU
A little rough around the edges, but this is a great value within walking distance of VCU, Free passes to the YMCA just two blocks away which is much better than any hotel fitness center. Continental breakfast is good. Free WiFi and comfortable beds. Friendly and helpful staff. Ive never used the shuttle bus but I understand theyll take you to restaurants within a couple miles.
Traveler's tip on dining
Two places to keep in mind. One is Tarrants Cafe (easy to find online). Just a few blocks away and great for dinner but also delivers (including great pizza). For breakfast, right around the corner is Perlys. A Richmond legend.

Linden Row
The hotel was quaint with a lot of colonial charm. Yet, there are modern comforts such as marble tiled bathroom, free wireless use and a shuttle. Its in a good location downtown, without the busyness of downtown. A quiet place and in mild temperatures not more than a fifteen minute walk into the middle of downtown.

Historical Stay in Richmond
I visited Richmond with my teenage children for the Junior Olympics Cross Country but I also wanted the visit to be a learning experience as well. The Linden Hotel had a lot of history and had the best hospitality that the city could have offered. The hotel had a hospitality van that took us to several places in the city and to dinner. The breakfast buffet was perfect.

Great Period Inn
This was a neat hotel that has been taken broken down old row houses and turned it into a wonderful change of pace hotel that highlights what Richmond is doing downtown.

Great location, old south feel..
Great location in central downtown area, 2 blocks from Greater Richmond Convention Center. Numerous good restaurants in the area. Area is a little seedy(as is all downtown Richmond) but I never feared for my safety.

a nice quiet place to enjoy
I stayed here for one night while in Richmond on business. The front counter staff were very polite and welcoming. I booked a garden room but they gave me a room in the main house, which was nice. The room was decorated with antique style furniture. Nice upgraded bathroom with tile and fixtures. The front desk recommended a great place to eat, which I walked too b/c it was less than 3 blocks away. Nice continental breakfast was provided. The only cons I would say was parking - not much on street or pay 10 dollars for valet and the door locks were loose. I would stay again!
