Rooms are a Closet

Rooms are a Closet, you open the main door and the bed is not more than 3 feet, the bathroom door is 2 feet from the bed, skip this place is not worth it, try the Dylan Hotel, rooms are bigger and better lobby, better overall, and cost less.

Traveler's tip on shopping

GO to Dylan Hotel, better rooms, much more bigger, this place is a closet, is not worth the money very uncomfortable stay. Elevators are very small also, only three people fit at the elevators

Great Location to Times Square

I was very satisfied with this hotel. The location was great to Times Square. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Whenever there was a need, they were more than willing to assist. The room was a nice size compared to others i’ve stayed at. Great time.

Hidden gem in NYC

I was so surprised to have found this gem of a hotel in NYC through Expedia. The midtown location gave great access to both my business meetings and pleasure trips to the Musuems, close to all trains. The rooms are small but comfortable for 2 with a King bed, clean and staff was very helpful. I plan to stay at the Mela for all my NYC trips.

Great location - Friendly Staff

Quick check-in and warm welcome. They happily kept our luggage before and after our reservation while we explored the city. Air conditioning began to be very loud at 3am and then died. We told the front desk the next morning. They offered us 2 free breakfasts (gave us coupon at 11:15 with breakfast having ended 11:00).

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Check out Jimmy’s Place next door. Great neigborhood bar with a fun crowd.

Right in the hustle & bustle of NYC

We mainly picked this hotel for location, location, location. It’s right off Times Square & near Bryant Park which means its easily assessible to alot of subway lines, Port Authority, 5th Ave, & even walking distance to Central Park (I’m from a big city & don’t own a car - so walking this much might not be doable for someone from suburbia...) Our interior room was clean, nicely decorated and somewhat quiet for being a 1/2 block away from Times Square (let’s face it - you’re not going to get a completely quiet room in the middle of NYC) but pretty tiny (which WAS expected.) We didn’t have a full closet or a writing desk but it was basically a place to sleep & relax, not write a full college term paper and we were perfectly fine with that. It was relaxing to have coffee in lovely Bryant Park before heading out for the day. I would recommend this place for your first visit to the Big Apple since the room rates are reasonable and you’ll be right in the middle of all the chaotic energy they call Manhattan.

Hotel Mela was great!

Hotel Mela was located in a great location to everything we wanted to do! Walking distance to many attractions! The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The room was kind of tiny, but all NYC hotel rooms are! I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting NYC! P.S. On a quirky side note, the hotel even had umbrellas for us to use when it was raining out! This was very helpful and saved us money because we didn’t have to buy them! :o)

A treasure in Time Square

We were not expecting such an excellent experience. We can’t find one single negative thing about Mela Hotel. The employees are so corteous and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. If that were not enough, it is in the middle of all action - restaurants, theaters, shopping and Time Square around the corner. It is a small cozzy hotel where you can rest after a day of action. The bed and pillows are incredibly confortable! We will be back!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Radio City and theaters are at walking distance. Good Morning America TV show is at the corner. By the way, the theater where President Obama took Michelle is just across the street.

Small room

Although the room was small it was very clean and modern. The main negative was lack of clothes hanging space for a longer item such as a dress, and lack of a table or counter top in the bathroom to put things. However, the location if you want to be in the theater district or near Times Square was great.

Small Room

Clean but my room was a closet. I never realized they made rooms where there was no place to put down a suitcase. Good location, close to everything, I would stay there again and ask for a room bigger than 1108!

Location, Location, Location

This was a great location in NYC. We went on our honeymoon and being in midtown half a block from Times Square was great. The hotel is a small boutique hotel. Our room was an executive king on the back of the hotel. The room had no view, but after walking all day we slept well in the quiet offered in this room. All hotel employees were more than helpful with suggestions, directions, etc...

Great find on Times Square

I booked this hotel because it was close to the site of a conference I was attending. Would definitely stay there again. Amazing location for being in the heart of things, especially theater. Small room, though typical of New York City, nicely laid out, clean and seems newly renovated. Nice bathroom. I had a room overlooking the street and even on the 12th floor there was some modest noise, so asking for one at the back would be a good idea if you are a light sleeper.

Great value

Considering the size of New York city hotel rooms, this one was extremely nice. Though it was not huge, it was definetly big enough. The rooms were well taken care of and the beds were very comfortable. The overall style of the hotel was very nice. For those of you traveling to New York for the first time keep in mind that you will not find the size room your used to staying in, but the rooms at Hotel Mela were definetly a good size and a good value.

Great place to stay in New York.

Went to NY for Valentine’s Day weekend. The hotel was perfectly located to Times Square and Broadway. Everything that we wanted to do was only a short walk. The room was very clean, bed was comfortable, and the staff was very nice.

Good location, nice and confortable.

I do recommend this hotel. It is just some steps from Time Square but it is calm and nice. The service is friendly. The room is small, clear and cosy. The decor is very pleasant. Good small hotel for a good price.

It was a very cute hotel. Great quality and friendly, helpful staff. Room was a little small but other than that, no complaints! Almost perfect! Good possibility I will return and share with others to go.

Great Location for New Year’s Eve

On our first night stay, we realized that the street noise was too much to bear for a week long stay in a room on the 2nd floor. We asked to relocate and the front desk took care of our request right away. The hotel had us move the next day. To our surprise, the transition was seamless being that it was a busy holiday week and availability was limited. Once in the new other room, we realized that the first room was missing several items like the coffee maker and robe. We were very happy that we made the move and slept great for the remainder of the visit. On the morning of checkout, the express checkout receipt was waiting under the door. Several charges appeared that were not ours. We disputed the charges before leaving for home only to find out days later that the charges appeared on the credit card. It took several phone calls to the hotel to resolve. Be sure to audit the room charges and your credit card statement carefully. Overall, our experience at Hotel Mela was good. Great location, clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff!

I will be back!

This hotel is in a great location and is well appointed. I had a deluxe king size room which was a great size and very clean. The only complaint I would have would be the size of the TV, which was a fair distance from the bed so a little difficult to see/read details on the screen ;-)

Great Location

No complaints with the hotel, the staff are great and friendly. The bed was very comfortable. The location was very central to everything we wanted to see and do.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Well within walking distance of the very busy Time Square, 5th Avenue, Radio City. Everything you’d want.

Great location and price

Small boutique hotel in a great location. By far the best price and location anywhere in Manhattan if you are looking to stay near Times Square. One block away with many eateries and such nearby. No bar/rest. inside the hotel but next door is supposedly owned by the hotel. Very convenient but smaller of rooms I have stayed in. Very pleasant staff, clean rooms, quality 3.5 stars to 4 stars as described. I would stay again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Nowhere in Manhattan will you find a hotel this close to Times square for this price. Great location and price.
