Review of Hyatt Regency Waikiki

I found this to be a very friendly hotel great location just across from the beach. The room was very clean and well appointed, the bar staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast was good. I would certainly stay there again.

The rainy season runs from November through March and it rained most days but we also had lots of sun and the sea was very warm and excellent for easy surfing and swimming

beautiful, balmy Honolulu hotel

slight mixup about oxygen supply and delivery but other than that the stay was wonderful..........beautiful facilities, even the "city view" room had a good sized lanai and partial ocean and Diamond Head view. Was there celebrating a significant birthday after being born in Hawaii many years ago and staying at the Regency fulfilled my dream vacation.

A little short on service

We booked this stay months before the actual date of the trip. It was for our 20th wedding anniversary. We booked a deluxe ocean front room with a king bed. We checked in on a Tuesday afternoon about 4:00pm. We were told they were out of ocean front rooms with king beds so we had to settle of 2 doubles. That was a real bummer to start your vacation like that. They didn’t seem to eagar to want to accommidate us either. We felt like just another guest. Also, there are 2 towers in this hotel; an older tower and a newer tower. The newer tower is nicer and has a better view of the beach. We were placed in the older tower on the 17th floor just high enough to see the ocean and part of the beach over a smaller hotel that was between us and the beach. Each tower has 40 stories. If you book make sure you asked ot be placed in the newer tower. Also if you’re renting a car beware of the crazy parking garage! In addition, the cost to park your rental car is almost as much a day as it is to rent a car. Ask for free parking when you book. On a good note the Expedia has people in the hotel to assist you with booking tours while you’re on vacation. They were GREAT and very helpful. Also, because they didn’t have a King bed they did agree to wave our parking fees for our rental car for the week. However, we had to barter with them to get that. They didn’t offer. Next time we’ll more than likely stay at another hotel.

Pearl Harbor and the Polynesian Center. Also, book an early morning private cruise through Expedia to go snorkling. It’s well worth the cost. We saw dolphins, sea turtles, and the works. It was awsome! In the winter we’re told you will see whales.

Treated like Royalty

I recently flew over to visit my daughter, who lives in Maui, and then we took a girls trip over to Oahu for a few days. We were greeted as we drove up with such warmth and friendliness. We didn’’t use the valet, but they helped us up to the front desk with our bags and even refused a tip. The front desk had us in a king bed , and I had requested two double beds. After a short wait we were told we could have a room with two beds if we could wait an hour or so. I was a little tired, but said that would be fine. Well, they sent us up to the Regency Club to wait where we were treated like Royalty! We had a pass to use the Club while we were there, and it was very nice.We also were supposed to have a city view and when we arrived in our room we could look down on the beach! It was a great stay and I will stay there the next time I am in Honolulu.

A car is a must to go over to the North Shore to get away for a day from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Great Stay! This is a Great Resort!

Really enjoyed my stay at the Hyatt. It is a beautiful resort. Staff was terrific. No problems with checking in/out. My room was ready when I arrived. "Deluxe Oceanfront" room is the way to go. The cost is worth it! I was offered a room change when I mentioned that I had a little obstruction (another hotel) to the right of my room which prevented me from seeing most of the sunset. I was in the Ewa Tower on the 12th floor and was offered a room in the Diamond Head Tower on the 25th floor. I was allowed to see the room before moving since I was concerned about being too high---and I was right. The view on the 25th floor was absolutely breathtaking, but I was uncomfortable standing on the balcony/lanai. I kept my room in the Ewa Tower and enjoyed the oceanfront view, and partial views of the city and Diamond Head. Housekeeping was great. Room service was good too. ABC Stores are in the hotel. Last but not least, go to the breakfast buffet at the Terrace Grille---awesome! It cost $25.00, (includes taxes and gratuity). Tip: purchase your ticket for the buffet at the front desk each time that you go. You will save $5.00. Overall, I had a blast and highly recommend this hotel.

Waikiki Beach is nice, but is very crowded during the midday (around 12:00 to 5:00). Walk the beach early in the morning and you will experience its true beauty. Splurge - Expect to spend some money for tours/events. The Expedia concierge at the Hyatt was very helpful. I enjoyed the sunset boat cruise on the Navatek; the luau at Paradise Cove; and the Pearl Harbor Tour with a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial. I recommend all three. They were fantastic! Skip the "Aloha Friday" that is sponsored by the hotel, it was a little boring. Attend Happy Hour at the pool-side bar called Elegant Dive, which has live entertainment. The downside to Happy Hour is that the drinks are watered down. You will taste a true Mai Tai if you go to the luau at Paradise Cove.

Loved the pool/bar

We just got back and are already planning another trip. The pool and bar area are great. There is live music at night, the hotel is steps away from the beach, is centrally located and the view from the spa is exactly how it looks on the web site. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful and there is an expedia desk located in the lobby who gave out helpful and useful info to us on numerous occasions.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

You’ll be surprised how much you use the ABC stores. Save your receipts for free gifts. Also, watch and listen to the surfer instructors on the beach for a day or 2 then walk down the street and rent a board for half as much and twice as long. Don’t forget your sunscreen.

No water no Air conditioning

Unbelievable. Water system upgrade our first night. No water, no notice by Expedia, no air conditioning. No toilet usable. One single mens toilet in a parking lot across the street for the male guests. Pathetic 4 ounce bottles of water provided when complained to night manager for refund. No refund. Witnessed others complaining, too, when no water at time promised. Day manager sent a bottle of wine....Lost some weight perspiring all night

will consider Hyatt again....

stayed on the Ewa tower 11th floor ... nice.. kind and helpful housekeeping service.. Susan provided us everything we need in the room. The only disappointment we had was, we arrived at 1PM at the hotel and had to wait for 3PM check in,my husband and I were so tired, they could have offered us an early check in considering the time difference where we came from, we needed some rest and sleep. No energy to watch the Aloha festival that night. All in all this will not stop us from returning at The Hyatt.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

you must try the parasailing at Maunalua Bay as for dining, the Terrace Grille at the Hyatt is far so good and affordable. Swap meet for good prices for your take home souvenirs and gifts, but you need to use your bargaining skills.

Hyatt Hotel

The cost for parking was extremly high more than the cost to rent the car for the day. Otherwise the staff was very helpful and accomodating. It was hard to find the entrance to the hotel as well as the main lobby which was located on the second floor. It seemed like we kept going in circles before we finally found it.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We realized that you don’t really need to have a vehicle since there are plenty of buses and shuttles that take you anywhere you want to go.

Elegant Hotel

The hotel is the other side of the street from Waikiki Beach. Some rooms have a partial view of the beach. The noise from the street below is significant when the sliders are open. The elevator for the rooms does not go all the way to the street level, they stop at the 2nd floor. So you have to use an escalator to get to street level--not real convenient if you’re handling your own bags. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Great location. I would stay there again.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try the Hawaiian Coffee shop across the street at the Moana Surfrider hotel. Great!

Ok but wouldn’t rush back!

Great location, right opposite the beach. Hotel was ok, room was just average. The bathroom was a bit weird as it had carpet! Its a huge hotel & breakfast there was a always a huge queue so we never ended up eating there as we couldn’t be bothered waiting! For a Hyatt hotel I was quite disappointed as have stayed in hyatts before & they have always been nice. However we were only there for 2 nights so it was fine! If I was going back Waikiki I would go to another hotel

Noisy and in need of updating

Starts with a full package trip and the hotel not being ready to check-in when we arrived. So we left our bas which they said would be in our room when we came back. Came back in 2 hours, checked in, got a nice room on floor 31, no bags. Called down and waited for bags then realized the sound in the room (which sounded like somebody moving furniture) was actually the elevator bank noisily scrapping their way up and down up and down. When we got our bags we called the front to change rooms to something preferably under 50 decibles but they didn’t have any... hard to believe when Hawaii is in such a bad recession and they had 30% decline in tourism plastered on every newspaper and news report. Was able to change rooms the next day after a sleepless night. Moved us to 14th floor with ocean view. Shouldn’t be any problem with that, right? Except some surfing expo right on the beach across the street that started blaring air horns from 6:30am every day (including Saturday) and went until after dark every night. Also woken up by drummer parks outside the hotel at 2:00am; had to call the front again to get them to go outside and shut them up. Overall, not satisfied with the expeirence.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The entire north side of Oahu was incredible. Drove around a lot and really enjoyed the beach off the air strip on the north shore. Enjoyed the Pupukea and Sunset Beach area. Lots of little cute places on north side.

I loved my location!!!!

Everything is so close by, beach, shopping and nightlife. It was absolutely the best place to stay. Staff was nice and so helpful in getting around town and Oahu. Our room was always clean. I love the fact that you can borrow towels at the pool to take to the beach. My husband, and especially my kids, never got bored. We just got back Aug. 30th, stayed the whole week there and never had any problems. I totally recommend this hotel for families. For sure this will be the place I would stay again in Oahu. Mahola!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Waikiki is very expensive but if you get out of Waikiki that’s were you will find good deals on dining and/or shopping. Although the ABC Store is reasonable and there everywhere.

An experience to remember

As my first ever visit to Hawaii, this hotel made it a trip to remember. The specatacular interior waterfall and rain forest style atrium was a special touch and added cachet to the premises.Although the interiors were a bit dark it was not gloomily so and if anything helped to mitigate the heat and humidity.Untypically for US hotels a lavish buffet-style "stuff your face" breakfast was included in the price and Ihappily and greedily availed myself of this facility.Lots of shops on the hotel premisies to browse through, mostly emporia style stores but with one of the ubiquitous ABC stores to provide essential needs. My room on 31st floor had very good view of Waikiki beach although the sight of the other hotel tower was obtrusive. All the staff that I encountered were pleasantly polite and helpful and my commodious room was kept meticulously clean. If there are to be any gripes at all it would have to be two things, firstly the surcharge for the internet, lesser hotels offer that for free and the bathroom was nothing special and failed to match up to the comfort and decor of the rest of the room. All told,I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to any visitor to Hawaii.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Two things that you must visirt are firstly Pearl Harbour just outside Honolulu on the other side of the airport and North Shore and its environs on Oahu.Skip the Polynesian Cultural Center,it’s just another anondyne theme park and Dole’s Pineapple plantation whilst instructive was also overly commercialised

Very pricey hotel! But Hawaii is pricey in general!

This hotel is pricey, especially on food! Which I was not impressed. $25 breakfast buffet is ridiculous when the food was nothing to rave about. Drinks were great at the bar. Pool is extreamly small for such a big hotel. Overall the staff was great and nice all the time. Their Expedia help desk helped us plan any activities we wanted to do!! The beach is across the street but would’ve rathered have stayed at a hotel w/privite beach b/c it was crowded and had to pay $25 any day we wanted an umbrella and chairs to lay on.

Traveler's tip on dining

Duke’s on the beach had great food and drinks!
