Close in more ways than one

The rooms are small and pretty dated but functional. If you have more than one person in a room it is quite cozy - as in not much room to move around. It is hard to beat the location in proximity to Times Square and the Theater district but you do give up some comfort.

Great hotel!

Perfect location. Close to Times square, Broadway and transport to other areas. Needs an update, as some areas of the hotel look very old and worn, however it was clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I was lucky enough to get a corner room, which was a good size and had excellent views. i would definately stay here again, although after the update it is soon getting it will probably increase its room rates.

great price for a great hotel

We stayed at the Milford for a week while visiting New York and had a great experience. The hotel service, rooms, conditions and staff were awesome. We were one block from Time Square and had a great time. I had read all of the reviews and found our stay proved to be outstanding. We would recommend the Milford for the comfort, location and price.

Grand old Dame of Broadway

Milford Plaza is an older hotel, but the elevators were very fast and my room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Only one block off Times Square, that might have made it a bit quieter. I could see a slice of billboard lights through my window.

Very convienent

I stayed at the Milford while in town for the NYC marathon. The hotel staff was very professional, the hotel was clean and convienent. My room was small but I expected that. Due to its close proximity to Times Square, the only downside during my stay was the noise from the Times Square crowd during the night while trying to sleep. But overall I would stay here again and would recommend the Milford to others.

Great Location for the price!

The Milford Plaza Hotel is is located so close to all of the Broadway theatres and Birdland - walking distance of less than 3 blocks for most! There are many great restaruants arond and the staff did a great job recommending choices to us. The hotel was old and does not offer a lot of services (room service, concierge etc), but my daughter and I simply wanted a clean, safe place to stay and the Milford defintely offered that. The staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful and we loved our stay...we would defintely g back again!

Walk the neighbrohoods and look for Zagat rate restaurants - they don’t cost any more than the national chains, offer incredible dining experiences and a a wide array of local choices.

Good for the price

Hotel is old and undergoing remodel. Room was very small, but we just needed a place to sleep for one night before starting a cruise. Very good service. Excellent location just a block from Times Square. Rate was very good comapared to others in the area. Would recommed as a relatively low cost "base of operations" in NY.

Great Times Square location

The Milford Plaza is ideally located off Times Square with excellent access to Broadway and Off Broadway theaters, dining, public transportation and shopping. Our room was very small, but it was clean and comfortable. The hotel plans a major remodeling, which is needed. Security is excellent. On the other side of the block, don’t miss Junior’s deli, a New York institution. The service and food are excellent.

If you intend to visit multiple locations around the city, we recommend a one-day fun pass on city transit. For about $8 you get unlimited rides for the day on subways and busses. Otherwise, it’s about $2.25 per ride. You can buy the pass at any subway station.

Great location

The hotel lobby was impressive but the room was just a room. The bathroom only had a pedestal sink, which is not the best for three women with makeup and flat irons and such. However we loved the location. It was perfect for the things we like to do in NYC. (Times Square, Broadway shows,& totally within walking distance to many other big attractions) I would definately reccommend it to a friend!

THE MILFORD PLAZA AT BROADWAY

The hotel met all ouf needs, friendly staff, excellent location, but becaise of the years of service the hotel looked like it needed an update and it will be. The hotel closes this December 2009 to do just that, complete refurbishing and with that it will be a prime hotel again. There are no ammenities here, coffee shop, bar and such, only coffee urns in the gift shop. We were not disappointed, but comfortable and pleased with what it did offer.and with that in mind had a great time.

Be flexible energetic and soak up the character and characters that make NYC unique in this world.

Great location & great service

Good Job Milford Plaza at Times Square!! - The hotel is located in the middle of the Times Square & theatre district action. I counted at least 16 theatres within a block of the hotel. Times square is a block away. The subway station is in a convenient location across the street. It is in a perfect location for the tourist or business traveler. - The windows are almost sound proof so the street sounds are not an issue at night. I can not say that about other more expensive hotels in the area that I have stayed at. - The room was clean and comfortable. The staff at the front desk was very good at assisting with tourist, theatre, and transportation information. - I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others. -They have very efficient state-of-the-art elevator controls. Very little waiting for an elevator even at peak times. - Despite renovations underway(Oct 2009), there was no lack of complete service normality. - Affordable restaurants are very close. - Bring your camera.

Get a multiple day unlimited useTransit Card. Bus/subway will get you almost anywhere.

great location

Hotel is quit old, and run down. There is one plug , so bring an extension cord. The room qverall though was clean, just in need of renovations. The best part of this hotel, is the location, 1 block from the heart of times square, 1 block from broadway, and all the theatres. We had a five min walk at the most for our shows. And we went to 3 shows at three different theatres. The hop on hop off bus pick up was one block. The subway was 1 block, and the people ont he subway are very hepful, as well as the person selling tickets inside. We went to china town, and lincoln centre on the subway with no problems, and one time was at 10 at night. It is very safe in ny. There are nypd everywhere. Great location, and would stay there again because of that. We were only in our room from 1a.m., to 7 a.m. everyday anyways.

Traveler's tip on shopping

go shopping in chinatown. Great purses, jewellery etc. that is the experience of a lifetime. And be ready to barter. Walk across the brooklyn bridge. We made what we called our bucket list, and crossed things off as we did them. Were there for four days, and saw everything we wanted to. Rented bikes to do central park, was great.

you get what you pay for.

This hotel was in an amazing location, but it is only good if you’re just looking for a place to sleep. The first night we stayed there, we received a knock on our door at 11:30pm telling us that they gave us the wrong room, and they were going to call us to tell us where to move. They never called after that and the next morning they told us that everything was fine. Except that when we checked out, they charged us for internet use from the room they were going to move us to! They seemed very unorganized. Plus I could hear every word of the tv in the room next to us. So basically, the hotel is inexpensive so I can’t really complain, but it was extremely basic and slightly chaotic!

great central location

The hotel was in a great location (8th Ave. and 44th St.)....easy subway access to anywhere. The room was a bit small, but we weren’t in the room much anyway, except to sleep. The bathroom was pretty small, but again...not really a big deal. The water temperature in the shower was not very consistent. Overall, I would stay at this hotel again and I would recommend it to others. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced hotel in midtown, definitely check it out!

Needs renovation

It is in a good location, pretty safe, but needs a lot of updates. We had to have the outlet in the bathroon replaced the first night we were there. Very old, and room was real small.

It was great

We came into NYC via Port Authority and just wheeled our suitcases one block up the street to the Milford Plaza, we were met at the door by very helpful staff that delivered our luggage to the room. Check-in was quick & easy. The room was a little small but we went to NYC to sight-see not to sit in the hotel room. The staff was very helpful, re; good places to eat, where the Gray Line tour bus was located (right up the street, one & a half blocks) Always willing to answer any questions that we had, flagged a cab for us,brought extra pillows to our room.Would I stay a Milford plaza again? In a heartbeat! It was great. Joan

Hotel is average

Conceirge was not helpful, seemed stressed and arrogant. A coffee maker would have been nice. Housekeeping was friendly and efficient.

Smooth Trip

I know you want a review of the hotel, but I want to review the entire trip. This was the first time I flew to the Newark airport and used shuttle service. Expedia instructions were very clear, and all connections were made smoothly and easily.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Getting a package deal through Expedia was a nice savings in cost.

Good location, adequate if small room

My biggest concern was with the lack of coffee anywhere in the hotel - no coffee maker in the room, no coffee shop in the lobby, etc. You have to walk out to Starbucks a few blocks away to get coffee in the morning.

Traveler's tip on dining

I recommend the restaurant Rice n’ Beans on 9th Ave as a good place to get a quick reasonably priced and delicious Brazilian dinner before or after the theater.

Best value at a great location

Just 2 blocks from Times Square, this hotel is very well located. We got a room upgrade at no charge, with a great view and free internet access. Hotel staff was friendly and very efficient. Will definitely return.

Great location for theatre goers!

Close to restaurants, Times Square and most importantly...the theatre district. The five shows I saw were located at theatres less than 5 minutes walk from my hotel room. The rooms were comfortable, small but very clean. Security is very tight in this hotel and that made me feel very safe, especially as a single woman travelling alone. Still a lot of exterior work being done to the outside of the hotel, ie. scaffolding everywhere but the lobby area is very nicely presented.
