This hotel should be a 2-star at most.

You know the expression "you get what you pay for" , well this hotel is it. Location was good, but the first room i got was a closet (DO NOT accept room 223!!!!). i asked for a bigger room. It was better but still small. Room was clean but not renovated. Beds are just OK. No views (on a brick wall). Hallways are pretty old. Staff was friendly. Upon arrival guests were informed there would be NO WATER Sunday morning bet 6-8a. I would be sleeping so it was ok, but had i had to get up early that would have been pretty bad. I stayed for one night, had it been longer, i would have changed hotels. Worth paying more to stay in a nicer hotel. But if you don’t care about the room, want a great location, and are on a tight budget, and are not claustrophobic you’ll be fine. I would take the time to shop around though.

Amsterdam

The hotel is very old, small and needs a good claning - staff were nice enough but the room smelled dirtly and the noise was aweful - 6th floor and you could hear everyone talking on the streets - Have stayed in that area before and never had an issue - I did a bundle (flight and hotel) through expedia and this hotel was rated as a 3 or 4 star - no way - 2 stars at best due to location

A convenient place to stay, but make sure you get what you pay for.

Location, location, location

Definitely a 2 star hotel. Had to ask for wash cloths everyday and only got them one day. Asked for soap too. It was as clean as an older hotel can be. We had a clean place to shower and sleep. Spent all of our time exploring the city. Steps away from times square, rockefeller center, subway stations within 1 block--very easy to get around from here. Stay here for convenience--not to be pampered.

not impressed

not impressed is little to say , it was awful: -policy charges are ridiculous _i am average 1.70m-75kgs(5’8"-165pds) and could not sit in the toilette because there is no free space ,i has to sit sideways, even a child could not -difficult to rest because you can hear your neighbors ,my walls trembled when neighbors close their doors -some members of the fornt desk personnel don’t know the word courtesy _the worst of all is that i had to stay for 14 days because i had prepaid!

Very impressed!

The location of the hotel was superb, I was about half a block from Broadway. I got the chance to go to the Radio City Music Hall to an Aretha Franklyn concert just two blocks away. I had everything right there. Time Square, bus stops, subway stations, everything right there... The staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful. The chairs at the lobby are in a not so good condition but the hotel in the over all is in a OK condition. The room was fine and clean. The TV set in the room was a bit dark and no buttons to lighten it up. I liked the hotel and would go back there any time.

Its ok ... but nothing fancy

The hotel is very basic per se , considering the area is a great choice , and honestly the only reason why i think the place is worth is the location. My only big problem with the hotel was the room smell , which came from a badly maintained AC unit, im pretty sure dirty filters or something that had a bad smell. When you came to the room it had a bad smell, for me was not such an issue but for my wife it was. Other than that all decent.

Steps from Times Square

The Amsterdam Courts Hotel rooms were very small, but they were very clean and quiet. The best part was the great location....just steps from two subway lines and a short walk to Times Square!

Tiny but great location

Knew that we were booking a tiny room - 10 X 10 plus washroom. Took only carry-on luggage. Luggage fit into wall units that are on either side of the bed. Room had TV, hairdryer, iron and board - efficiently stored. Room and bathroom are a bit runned down but were clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great. Right in the midst of the Theater District and close to Time Square and the Restaurant Row (on 46th between 8th and 9th - if I remember correctly.) There are about 20 restaurants all along this street and most offer a prix fixe dinner. Good selection. Had two tasty dinners - Becco an Italian and Yum Yum Too - a Thai. Hotel is near the office for the red coloured double-decker tour bus company. Just north on 8th of this company a few door is a good little deli - great breakfasts at a great price. My husband and I would go back to the Amsterdam Court Hotel - cozy, priced right and great location.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Statue of Liberty: If you don’t want to do Ellis Island, take the free Staten Island commuter ferry. City (or state)run museums, eg Met Mus of Art, are free though signs say $20.00/adult. One can make a donation of a few dollars. Private museums (Guggenheim) are not free. (Gug. is free Fri. evenings.) Cheapest way to do musical for us was to call directly to box office (# in pamphlet from hotel) morning of play.

Hotel

Well, the hotel was conveniently located at an inexpensive price for Time Square. I was told that I could print my boarding pass for free with their computer, but later found out you had to pay for internet access, while it wasn’t expensive, $3.00 got me in and printed, it was the principal that I was misled. The room also had quite a stench to it, but as long as you left the air conditioning on, it was fine. The bathrooms could use some remodeling, but the beds were comfortable. The lighting wasn’t that great either. Now, the smell in the hallway is another story, we always held our noses once getting off the elevator until we got in our room. An overwhelming smell of mildew and mold. While the lobby looks nice, it is no reflection of the floors that house the hotel rooms. Overall, if you are looking for an inexpensive, centrally located place, and only plan to be in your room to sleep, this would be a decent choice.

Frequent ly book this hotel

Going to NYC for an evening and you don’t necessarily want to stay at a full resort hotel, etc., this place is ideal. I love it’s location and sleepng accomodations. The beds are great an the linens comfortable. It is within walking distance of all my favorite places, I have had more than three visits with diferent people and they all agree with me.

Would not recommend

Room very dark, bathroom had cracked tile and missing caulk, shower ranged from scalding to freezing. I had to adjust the shower head straight down so I could jump out of the water when it went from warm to scalding or to freezing. AC was a window unit that never produced enough cold air to keep room cool.

The perfect place for a perfect price

It was our first stay in NYC and the Amsterdam Court Hotel was the ideal place with an ideal price. The hotel itself is located just off Broadway and very close to Times Square. Located in Manhattan(in the theatre district) the Amsterdam Court provided a centralized location for everything. The hotel is older but the rooms are simple and very clean. We had no problems at all and the room met our needs for two. If you’re looking for a spacious room.....find another hotel. However, if you are like us, who spends time in their hotel anyway......especially in NYC. As I mentioned earlier....besides a great location....the Amsterdam Court is priced right for travelers on a budget. Two thumbs up!

small, but cute

The hotel staff was really helpful and nice. I loved the design of the room, but thought the room would be bigger. Still it was comfortable and a great location.

Small but with good service, friendly and well located

I arrived at the hotel at about 8.30 p.m. having asked for late check-in and my room was ready and waiting for me! It was small (I had two large suitcases)with a tiny closet (a space behind a curtain) BUT the bellman was very helpful, he advised that since I had a relatively long stay (8 nights) and other rooms were becoming available I could ask for a larger room. I did so the next morning before setting off to shop & sightsee and by the time I returned, the staff had moved my bags to a much larger room with a view of Broadway and a two-door closet. The staff were accommodating at all times (putting me in touch with the laundry company when I forgot to include an item; giving me excellent advice to avoid early morning traffic to get to a downtown destination; and providing a small fridge - there’s a $30 charge). I would DEFINITELY stay here again and recommend it to others. It’s convenient, clean and well-located. Just remember to ask for a larger room if you require one.

Not Impressed

Room was very small. Hot water faucet in bathroom had to be rotated to find position to shut off water. Cold water handle in shower fell off. We reported both problems to the desk clerk. Room was very small but neat however getting into bed from either side was tight. Widow faced a brick wall. I would not recommend this hotel.

Good value for sightseeing areas.

It’s small, but I expected that. Helpful staff. A/C left a bit to be desired and it was hot when I was there (Aug 1-5). Location was great.

Not Impressed

The hallway outside our room seemed to have a new odor everyday. One day it was a strong onion odor, another day it was cigarette smoke. Also, the airconditioning did not work in our room. Not a good thing in NYC in late July.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

It was a nice location for the Broadway shows.

Rooms extremely small

I felt as I was inside a boat’s room. It is really really small. The mattress was not as comfortable, but worst of all there is no air conditioning in the hotel’s aisles except in the first floor. During summer this can be really annoying. There is a separate air conditioning systems inside each room. Hotel personnel was friendly and helpful.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great location, two blocks from Time Square.

Biggest bang for your buck!

The rooms are small, but clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, and I would definately stay there again. Basically, this is the place to stay when going to New York City.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

You cannot beat the location of the hotel. You are a block from the subway, which I would recommend that everyone at least try, as it is fast and cheap. You are only a couple of blocks away from where the bus tours start. I highly recommend the bus tours while in NYC. Time Square is just a few blocks away. Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum is there. A definate must do!
