Very Nice!

What a beautiful place to stay! The walk to/from the beach is pretty steep but not far. The day spa is new and beautiful. Our room was one of the nicest I’ve ever seen in a hotel. I would definitely go back.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I didn’t like the mandatory valet parking and daily charge for it. Careful crossing the train tracks to the beach. The trains blow their horns and there is a specific area to cross.

Very nice for Del Mar

L’Auberge was a good place to stay with fantastic ocean views and a great location right down town. It importantly has many public spaces from which to enjoy the view. The staff was wonderful- young and casual but very polite and helpful, a perfect combo for a beach hotel. It is a fairly large hotel, and walking to my room down a long sort of stuffy hallway seemed at odd with the otherwise beachy feel of the place, but I would absolutely go back. By far, the best hotel in Del Mar with the best location.

Poor management decision making

The hotel placed me in a room that was next door to a hospitality room that was in continuous use the two days of my visit including a live band one evening. My outside patio was never my own, there was no privacy and people continued to use it as if it was theirs. The room was also a handicap room with NO Bathtub only a shower. I expressed my not being satisfied and was told "our hotel is completely booked"- I said: "so put someone who is in the wedding parties in that room and place me elsewhere"!!! To no avail. I averaged spending almost $400 per night over and above my room price on hotel activities(dinner, wine, spa). The hotel offered me nothing for my inconvenience and I would not stay there again until they did. Please do let the management know they did a poor job pleasing me in their ***** property!

Amazing!

My kids and I had to go to San Diego for a basketball tournament. We chose this hotel, so we could be close to the beach. It was amazing from the moment we checked in until the time we checked out! We even extended our stay. The staff was so great, treated my kids so well. They even made them freshly baked cookies, each night. It was by far one of the best trips I have taken with my kids ever! It was 17 miles to Sea World, 14 miles to Legoland and 15 minutes from downtown. We went to the beach on our last day and the hotel provided us with boogie boards, chairs, towels, frisbee and more! It reminded me of Shutters in Santa Monica with the flair of Delano in Miami! We will be back before the summer is over, for sure. LOVE IT!

Traveler's tip on dining

There are so many great restaurants right across the street. The Del Mar Pizza Shop was great. Jerry O’s was great to watch the game, Il Fornaio is one of my favorites. We went to Starbucks across the street each morning and there was a bagel shop next door. The Market was great as well. A gourmet grocery store is a plus. I am pretty sure I gained 10 pounds on this trip!

Perfect Southern California Getway - We want to go back already!

This beautiful hotel is the perfect place to escape for a few days! We live in Southern California and it was only a short a drive to instantly relax in the lap of luxury. The room was beautiful, service excellent, and location was perfect. We definitely plan to return again and again!

Love Del Mar

We had an amazing time in Del Mar. This Hotel is perectly located right in the heart of the town, just walk outside front or back and everything you need is right there.

Wonderful Once Again

We have stayed at this hotel many times. It was great, as always. The rates have increased, but we managed to get a good deal on Expedia, or we may not have stayed there. We had dinner at the restaurant twice. It was superb, unlike the usual food you get at hotel restaurants. It was not cheap, but was well worth the money.

Overpriced, would not go back

I was very disappointed with my stay at this resort. First of all, they put us in a first floor handicapped room next to the kitchen with the patio facing the bar and outdoor terrace, so it was extremely noisy especially when they had weddings. Also our room was just outside the ballroom which made it extra noisy when they had a function. But the worse of it, was the bed mattress and the pillows. It was so uncomfortable, I had a backache and neck ache the whole time. The mattress is lumpy and the pillows are very flat. I couldn’t wait to get home to my own bed! The only positive things about the place was the hotel lobby decor and the location near the beach.

A few problems

In the past we have really enjoyed our stay but this time was a little different. When we arrived to check in at 3:00 pm there were no rooms available and we had to wait in the lobby for a half hour. We had previously requested a quiet room but when we got to the room it was on a corner near the hotel driveway that leads to a street and there were trucks and valet drivers that used that path continuously. We couldn’t get our laptop to work and had to have hotel staff come to the room to bring a certain cable we needed. The hotel has gone some recent renovations and has been under construction for quite a while. The rooms are very nice and the lobby is beautiful but the new spa is still not open and the outside walkway leading to the downtown Del Mar area is not a pleasant path to walk. Lastly, the overnight parking fee is ridiculously high. The room rates are already very high and then you add in the exhorbitant fee for parking and tipping the valet each time you need your car, it gets very expensive. If money is no object and you want the fanciest place and best location for walking to the beach and downtown shops and restaurants, this is the place to go. But, if you are trying to watch your pennies, there are many other nice options.

There is a great shopping area called Cedros Design District in Solana Beach, just a few miles down the road that has fun and unique boutiques and nice little cafes.

We loved it!

L’Auberge del Mar was small and intimate and so beautiful. At the same time it was hip and chic, the lobby was always bussling, and the food was delicious. The service was extraordinary and the little town of Del Mar was charming. We loved it and will return for sure!

L’Auberge is just a five minute drive from the renowned Torrey Pines Golf Club, which exceeds its reputation for beautiful, challenging and unique golf.

Perfect getaway in Delmar, CA

We experienced a relaxing stay and to our added delight it had been recently renovated. It’s gorgeous and the attention to detail is everywhere you turn. Also, the staff are always pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed every minute.

This hotel is highly recommended it’s within walking distance to more restaurant’s (even though L’Auberge’s was the best) and shopping and a short distance from downtound San Diego.

Ultimate Pampering & Relaxation!

What a beautiful location! Recently upgraded (June 2008; further improvements come online October-December 2008), L’Auberge Del Mar is a great all-around resort. Close (though not adjacent) to the popular surfing beach and steps away from restaurants and shops, it’s a wonderful location. But there’s no need to leave the premises! I have NEVER slept in a more comfortable bed ... I’m sure I left a me-shaped sound sleeping indentation as a result of the smooth high-quality sheets and fluffy pillowtop mattress. Fine dining, a beautiful pool and copious bars. The spa is extensive and reasonable, the staff is super-solicitous and the overall vibe is relaxed and enjoyable.

Can’t beat the location

First the bad. No wireless signal in my room. I was told by reception that the business center was available for my use. I tried to explain that my strong preference was to be able to work from my room. Reception then gave me a support number to call, but I gave up after spending a half hour on hold. The hotel then tried hooking up an ethernet connection in my room, but that did not work either. I then tried the business center, but the wireless connection was extremely weak. Two days into my trip I finally figured out that the hotel lobby was the place to be if you wanted wireless connectivity. Coffee maker in my room did not work and the replacement that was sent up day 2 did not work either.A friend staying in her own room had the same problem. The good. You can’t beat the location. Walk to restaurants both on the beach and in the town. Spectacular views of the sunset from the poolside bar. The hotel is in very good condition having recently undergone renovations and staff for the most part were friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back if they were to fix their wireless issues.

Very pricey, but being a guest is one of the very few ways you can enjoy a round of golf at Del Mar Country Club without being a member.

Loved every minute!

We took a chance on this hotel based on the Expedia website, and were so pleased with it. The staff was wonderful, the room was beautiful, and they gave us an upgrade as it was our anniversary. We also ate in the restaurant, the food was excellent. Great shopping and restaurants within walking distance. We will definitely return!

Comfy but needs upgrade

I felt that this is an overpriced hotel. I also felt that it had no right to charge "resort fee" since it did not have that resort-type feeling to it. They can certainly use a remodel and upgrade of their ammenities. I don’ think I will go back to this hotel nor will I recommend this to others.

Very Cozy

A nice small resort. Extremely friendly. Great fireplace with mellow live entertainment. Awesome setting. Nice fireplace in bar area. Great location although not on the beach. Beach was 200 yards down the street. Super close to great dining. The italian place across the street had commanding views, great food, great service and great prices. We’ll be back.

The perfect hotel for a Del Mar getaway

L’Auberge is centrally located in Del Mar. Fantastic restaurants, great shops, and the beach are all within walking distance of the hotel. The grounds are nicely maintained, the gym and tennis courts were great, and the rooms were a nice size and clean. We will definitely stay at this location again.

Powerhouse Park is across the street from the hotel at the beach. Perfect location for the kiddies to play.
