Great views

Lovely redecorated design hotel, efficient staff, although a long elevatorwait while we were there due to repairs. Spectacular views from the topfloor restaurant/lounge. we had an enormous room with windows on 2 sides and breathtaking view over the East river and Roosevelt island. That said, the neighborhood isn’t much; to find stores and restaurants you have to go at least 3 long blocks crosstown to really be in midtown.

No hot water in this hotel!

It wasnt worth the expensive rate. I actually rode up the elevator with David Brenner (well known comedian) who was staying in the hotel. He actually did a monologue about all the maintenance problems in the hotel and everyone on the ride was hysterical.. No hot water in whole hotel after like 7 am.. heater in room didn’t work, beds werent made up till really late, hallway was so dark I couldnt see to put my keycard in.. the smoking floor was so rancid with stale smoke smell, my friend who is a smoker moved to a non-smoking floor because she was so nauseated, no hot breakfast, only buffet with toast, fruit cereal etc. etc. Need I say more.?

pretty good for the most part

We went back and forth on staying here based on the conflicting reviews.. so here are all the details - hope to help any confusion. The hotel is in a great location as far as safety and shopping, if you do not want to walk to the train..then why did you come to NYC? As far as noise goes I was extremely surprised at how quiet it was, our room was on the outside right across from the bridge and there was hardly any noise! We went for the upgraded deluxe room hoping to have a cool view- and there was NONE, unless you count the gas station right outside- so do not book the deluxe room thinking it is an automatic view. We had no issues with towels or cleaning. Had to call down in the middle of the night because our room was so hot but they told us exactly how to fix it. Knocked a couple of points for an absolutely rude clerk that took our call while booking. Basically a good stay

I love this place

The Bentley Hotel in NYC is an unknown gem, tucked away near the East River in Midtown. Every time I go there, I feel so welcomed and so comfortable. There are a number of European travelers there and thus the place has a very eclectic feel to it. It is now my home in NYC

Ok for the room rate

The size and cleanliness of the room were fine. The service at the front reception was good. But make sure you take earplugs as the noise from the traffic was quite bad at times. Location is also a little far from the subway.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Roosevelt Island Tramway is only a few minutes away.

Thank you for your high scores and kind words about The Bentley Hotel. I am pleased to see you were satisfied with our rooms and cleanliness. We are pleased our guests are able to enjoy our Upper Eastside location; which allows us to boast of great views of the Queensboro bridge and less traffic and noise that many New York City hotels. However, due to being located in New York City, our rooms are not totally soundless. We hope to welcome you back as a guest in the near future.

No room service on Labor Day

For a hotel located on the Upper East Side, it provides a fair value. I was disappointed that the hotel did not provide any room service on Labor Day in spite of its four star rating. However, the information in the room did provide takeout alternatives to the lack of food service on premises.

Clean and Inexpensive

We recently stayed at the Bentley Hotel on the east side of Manhattan for a long weekend. We booked the hotel because of it’s inexpensive price and general location. Upon arriving, the hotel was clean and we had a decent view of the 59th Street Bridge. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a clean inexpensive place to stay in the city - as it can be hard to find those two qualities in tandem. That being said, the hotel is a long walk away (25+ minutes)from the subway, and being on York Ave certainly places it outside of moderate cab traffic. The housekeeping staff was stingy with towels - we had to request washcloths each day we were there, as we were only supplied with one the first day we arrived, and none thereafter. Because of the price, certain amenities came at a higher price; to rent a fridge for a day was exorbitant, and the wireless internet charge was also high. Those aspects, coupled with the distance from the majority of the things we were there to see would stop me from booking the hotel again in the future. However, if you are driving to the city, and don’t care about the extra niceties, or paying extra for them, I would recommend the hotel.

Lots of problems

All sorts of problems with our stay: 1) No hot water on one morning. 2) No towels left after one day service. 3) No additional soap/shampoo left on another day. 4) No washcloths left on another day. 5) Extrememly loud air conditioning unit. Asked for service and this did nothing to alleviate the siutation. 6) Sofa bed mattress was terrible and very uncomfortable. 7) Only one ice machine in the entire building so you have to call for ice. Called one night and after waiting twenty minutes, had to call again to finally get a filled ice bucket. Overall, very poor service. Would not stay here again.

Funky hotel with great service

Hip place, with oustanding service (they allowed us to store our bags, both before check-in and after check-out, for no fee). The property needs a bit of brushing up - sink handle and shower head in our bathroom were loose, for example - but the room itself was luxurious and so comfortable. A great place to retreat from the bustle of the city.

HATED MY STAY!

My husband and I took a long weekend into the city to celebrate our anniversary. so we wanted to stay somewhere nice that wouldnt break the bank. well this place made us wish we did splurge! after checking in it was one thing after another! the mini bar was not cold and when we called down to the desk they said it wasn’t supposed to be cool? ok so after arguing over that they brought us ice for our beer and wine! YUCK! then when trying to shower to get ready for our nice night out the shower would not get hot...i let the water run and run and nooo hot water. i showered in cold water. then getting out of the shower i wanted to dry my hair( i have very long thick hair) and the AC had been on the whole time we were there and it had not cooled the room at all. i got so upset trying to dry my hair without sweating to the point of needing a shower. we called the desk and they send someone up to the room and they said they could replace the unit, that would only take them about 2hours in our room. when we had reservations already so we could not stick around for those 2hours. we asked for another room they told us they has nothing. so all we got was a fan in our room for the nite. WORST HOTEL STAY EVER!!!

I need coffee and more towels......

Even the chain hotels like Days Inn tend to give you an in room coffee maker. I think that should be true for this hotel. The service for my room was fine. My father and mother could not get enough clean towels and the hotel was quite slow at coming to clean their room even after they called twice. They were given no extra toilet paper until after 2 calls for that as well.

Traveler's tip

The location is excellent for people visiting patients at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and is very convenient to the FDR Drive.

Only complaint is the bathroom

The shower only had a half glass door, so everything in the bathroom got soaked when showering. There wasn’t a vent so everything also got steamed up. The bathtub stopper didn’t work, so taking a bath was not an option. Other than the bathroom, the room was very nice for the price, quiet, and comfortable.

glad we stayed at the Bentley

Our room was excellent - full wall of windows, high ceilings, tables, chairs, comfy, firm bed, nice bath. Folks at the front desk very helpful, even searching bus routes to the Guggenheim for us. Breakfast buffet was a little pricey for us, but the coffee was free, so we enjoyed morning coffee and great views of the East River and Queensboro Bridge from the top floor.

Traveler's tip

Getting around. The train stop at Lexington and 59th was a long hike, but the M31 bus line stops across the street, and we used it regularly. Clean, fast, could see the streets and sites. Routes are posted at every stop. Using the bus made much more sense to us at the Bentley.

Rooms were nice, customer service was not

For some reason room service did not come one day and we had to call for everything, towels, toliet paper, etc.etc. And when the fellow did come to deliver our things he wasn’t the pleasant one for sure. Also, I asked the desk for an ice bucket and he said he’d send a bellhop up with ice. never saw the ice.

The hotel is unnecessarily over rated.

We spent 6 days at the hotel. The temperature in New York was 35 deg. C during this period and the vintage air conditioners never performed. After 2 days we requested the front desk for a room change. They indicated their inability since they had to obtain the managers approval which never materialized. We gave up after 3 attempts. The toilets stank and there was no recourse since the hotel informed us that none of the toilets in were equipped with exhausts.

Bare bones and away from everything - pass this one

A nice clean hotel with modern decor but small rooms and spaces. Our stay wasn’t to our liking because of distance to everything. Hotel staff was less than helpful, we had a leaky faucett and broken/sticky door the entire time. I also expect a free breakfast and Internet. Without a gym or pool I consider this our first and last stay at the Bentley. You may pay a couple of buck more each night somewhere else but it’s worth it and in the end you’ll save money and have better ammenities somewhere else.

You get what you pay for

Pro: low cost, iPod enabled radio, modern room Cons: poor drainage in bathroom, so you take a shower and bath at the sametime. Shampoos not refilled during day. Only one washcloth in bathroom of a junior suite. Toilet installed crooked, faucet also crooked. Toilet paper holder slants down so when you sit on the seat pointed diagonally toward the wall, you bump into the t.p. knocking it to the floor. No exhaust fan in bathroom for those times. No toothbrush, limited toiletries. Small bathroom. Same bathroom in standard too as in junior suite. Extremely slow elevators. Maybe they are coal powered. AC is old, painted many times. No peephole in door, so when someone jiggled our door handle late last night, I couldn’t see if someone was there. Overpriced snacks and drinks (common to all hotels of course) but the Bentley is special, they employ a safe-like storage unit for beverages which automatically charges you if a bottle is removed for more than 20 seconds. Which just exaggerates the fact that they are overpriced and don’t want to give us a chance to replace them. Instead of trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of guests, allow us a small convenience and prevent us from leaving with a ripped off feeling. The vending machines on the 18th and 9th floors were in the supply closet with no labeling and weren’t even turned on. The vending and ice machine location on the 2nd floor was roped off.

Perfect for Eastside Stays

If you are visiting New York on vacation the Bentley is not the most convenient place to stay. It is a fair walk to the nearest subway and cabs can be difficult to find. If you have business on or are visiting anything east of Madison, the Bentley is perfect. The rooms although small are nicely decorated. Housekeeping is excellent and the desk personnel are extremely accomodating. The top floor lounge/retaurant is a beautiful setting. The food is just OK, but there are hundreds of good restaurants in easy walking distance. If you are using a car on your trip, the hotel has an excellent discount parking arrangement ($20 per day duing my stay) and you are two short blocks from the FDR entrances. My travel time to Syosset, Long Island at 8:00 A.M. was about forty five minutes. I don’t think any Manhattan hotel can boast that convenience. Also if you are accompanying a patient at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill-Cornell or any of the other world famous hospitals in the area, the location is perfect.

Convenient, given the price.

Nice Lobby, nice river view (IF you get a river view room) and nice decoration. Small bathroom, not the best service.I had to tolerate a wild party in the next room one night. When I complained, I got a free breakfast. The next night, the loud music started again. When I complained, the Hotel staff took action in quieting them.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Nice quiet place 10 minute walk from Bloomingdales.

Ugh,,, I should have taken the advice of previous bentley hotel guest

The hotel was clean and nicely designed...but it lacked customer service and it seemed that they were very prejudice. We (2 young ladies) visited the hotel and arrived very late due to flight delays. The lobby was very cold and the front desk wasn’t very nice or inviting. No one helped us up to our room and we were given the wrong room from what was requested. When confronted about the mistake the front desk did nothing to correct the problem nor offered an apology. It seemed like everynight we came back to the hotel our keys were not active, and everyday the front desk just had an attitude offering us a working key. The corridors on the upper floor were very warm in temperture, causing me to get sick after the trip. The maids always came in every morning and woke us up and you couldn’t talk to them because they knew little to no english.... It was just a nightmare staying at the Bentley Hotel. We will not be returning. We paid too much money for the horrible service we receieved.

Great location, very comfortable

The Bentley is in a great location with easy access. It doesn’t look like much when you pull up, but everything inside is great. The view from the bar/restaurant is incredible. The room is small, but very comfortable. Upscale at an affordable price.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is an awesome restaurant two blocks up from the hotel on 62nd. It is the best casual Italian meal of all time. The name is Il Vaggabondo. When you finish eating, they have an indoor Bocci court to work off the great food.

A true jewel

I was extremely pleased. My room had a fantastic view with huge windows. The location is perfect,a short hop to anywhere and I loved the Upper East Side area. Easy off-and-on to the FDR, if you have friends stopping by very handy. And the hotel has parking. The staff was very friendly and polite. Loved the restaurant, what a view! And the price, thank you, I could afford it! I look forward to my next trip to the Bentley, thank you again.
