Near Munising.and and Snowmobile trails

This historic log cottage on the banks of Lake Superior was originally built in the first part of the 1900’s as one of the early fishing camps of Shelter Bay. Over the years there have been numerous modern improvements, but much of the rustic charm, such as the large stone fireplace and the low ceilings and exposed rafters of the second story, remain…and the character does too. The shoreline is stones and boulders which make for lots of action and adds to the aesthetics that come from the sound of lapping waves. The site is wooded, peaceful, and private. This classic, up-north cabin has a main level with an eat-in kitchen, a spacious living room with the fireplace, an additional dining area, a ¾ bath with a low-threshold shower, and The Lake Room with two full sized futons, offering an amazing view of Lake Superior and Au Train Island. There are literally windows and views everywhere! Upstairs, facing the lake, there are two quaint bedrooms with queen sized beds and, toward the rear, an additional sleeping area with two single beds. If you’re keeping track, the place sleeps up to 10 people. Shelter Bay is conveniently located less than 30 minutes from Marquette or Munising. The cottage is situated close to the snowmobile trails and the circular drive allows for parking the truck and trailer combo for hauling your machines. Park and ride right from the cabin. High speed internet and Wi-Fi is available! This is your opportunity to experience part of history in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Arrangements for pets are available.

What’s nearby? Deer Lake is an all sports lake, has a public boat ramp and is just down the road. The Brownstone Inn is a great place to eat and is 3 miles away. The public boat ramp to Lake Superior is less than 3 miles from the cottage. Au Train is only 7 miles away and offers food, party supplies, gas, and canoeing on the Au Train River. Au Train Lake is another all sports lake in the area with a public launch site. Grand Island National Recreation Area and Pictured Rocks are close-by.

Girls Weekend
We booked a last minute weekend on Superior, the accommodations and the location were perfect for our group ( might be a difficult place for seniors who are not mobile, navigating loft upstairs). Picturesque views right on the shore of Lake Superior, everything was provided: wood for a crackling fire and everything we needed to cook steaks on the grill.

Great Cabin
Its an updated rustic cabin. It was just my husband and myself, so perfect size for us. Its super clean! For as old as the cabin is....we didnt see one spider! The upstairs bedrooms are a challenge, so beware its a Tight staircase and you need to duck around a chimney to get to the 2 bedrooms with the bigger beds. We chose to stay downstairs, and with just 2 of us that worked out fine. The cabin is right on the lake... it has some huge rocks to get down to the water... if you dont want to scale down the rocks theres a roadside park just up the street with a huge sandy beach, like a 5 min drive. We saw several bald eagles that flew super close to the windows. The sounds of the water are amazing and theres so many windows you will never have a bad view. We would definantly stay here again. It was super close to trails, towns and a great home base while we did a fall color tour and picture rocks. The hosts were very responsive and i got instant replys!

Serene Lakeside Retreat
Absolutely fantastic location on Lake Superior. In fact, you could not get a cabin closer to the water without being in the lake! Lovely views with gorgeous sunrises and lapping waves to lull us to sleep in the evenings. Loved the rustic cabin vibe with all its woodsy charm, including the working fireplace and outdoor fire pit. Thomas even provided the wood, kindling, and paper to make our fires happen with ease. When not enjoying the camp life, we were super close to Musining and the Pictured Rocks National Seashore. Great stay, exactly as advertised!

Ideal Location and Accommodations
The property was larger than expected, incredibly clean, and well stocked. Waking up to the sunrises and listening to the waves was the perfect start to each day. Great location midway between Munising and Marquette. Can visit many waterfalls, see lots of wildlife, fish, swim, grab a bite at a local restaurant, or cook at the cottage. We ended many evenings with a campfire. We had no problems climbing down the rocks to the water to rock hunt, fish, and swim. Highly recommend!

The view is incredible. The house is charming and rustic. Initially we were nervous about the hallway that requires you to duck to get to the bedrooms, but the view and the waves lulling us to sleep made it worth it.

Great Spot on Lake Superior
I rented the property with my wife, sister, and our dogs. As others have mentioned, the property was insanely clean. The enclosed porch that was added on was amazing and the star of the show. The rest of the house is an older cabin, so it has some wear. The attic has been converted to the bedrooms and are challenging to get up to for anyone that's tall. I also don't think it would have been a good fit for my older parents. You need to walk around the chimney, which is directly in the middle of the path to the bedrooms. Overall it's a great place that is impeccably clean with great views of the water. It's perfectly located between Marquette and Munising. If you're visiting the Pictured Rocks you can't do better!

Amazing view and sounds of Lake Superior!
My girlfriend and I needed a place to relax after some stressful events in our lives, and this property did not disappoint. The location was perfect to enjoy the picturesque Pictured Rocks in Munising towards the east and Marquette to the west. We were there during mosquito season, but the mosquitos stayed on the other side of the windows/screens in the all weather porch overlooking Lake Superior allowing us to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Lake Superior waves crashing on the rocky shore. The cottage was very clean, and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for some simple meals. Please be aware that anyone with any sort of disability where they cannot bend under some incredibly low hanging rafters will not be able to use the bedrooms upstairs.

Great little place on Lake Superior
Great place for peace and quiet directly on Lake Superior. Although the cabin is quite old, it maintains its charm and is well kept, probably the cleanest VRBO we've ever stayed in. Kudos to whoever cleans this place. We trecked to eben ice caves, visited pictured rocks, Munising, and Marquette, and overall had a great time! Highly recommend!

The Perfect Hideaway
Beautiful, wooded property just feet from Lake Superior. The cottage was a great home-away-from-home and the perfect base of operations for visiting Marquette, Munising, and Grand Marais. The Kewadin and Ojibwa casinos are both pretty close and are good for burning up time if the weather turns or you’re visiting at a time when it gets dark earlier (Ojibwa has great food!). Can’t wait to go back!

Picture Perfect
My now husband and I stayed here as we were getting married at Pictured Rocks and we stayed the week prior. I can't express enough how dreamy this cabin is; waking with the sunrise to view out the bedroom windows over the lake, the quiet of the woods, and the sunroom to watch the sunset are only cherries on top. We have discussed wanting to come back for every anniversary! Our dogs loved the quiet and all of the new sniffs they had outside. I swear I saw Bigfoot, one day too. The stars are incredible to look at every night, and we saw details in stars we've never seen before. Owners are over accommodating and friendly. Overall, the cabin broke our scale and is above a 10/10.

Beautiful location.
Wonderful, quaint cabin on the shore. Upstairs bedrooms are great for short people. The addition of the enclosed front porch with sleeping capability was a wise choice and the view from that part of the cabin is amazing. It would be nice if there were some dressers added to the home since we basically lived out of our suitcases the entire week. We would gladly stay here again, as the positives outweigh the few negatives by a large margin.

Rustic Green Cabin
We arrived on 8-14-22 and stayed until 8-20-22. When we arrived, we were a bit nervous. But after entering the front door and seeing how clean the cabin was, that started to ease our anxiety. First, the cabin is very rustic. So, if you are into modern accommodations, this is not for you. The Old wood plank flooring was pretty cool. The floor is sound, you will not fall thru, but it does make noise when you walk on it. You have to have an open mind when staying here. It is very old but has tons of character. The upstairs is a challenge to get to, I ended up bumping my head, spitting it open, no biggie. The porch and the views are amazing. We spent most of our time sitting and looking out at the water and the island. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals. We brought our own drinking water (Bonus) due to the water being well water. We used our water to cook, make coffee and drink. The water pressure isn't the best but that's where the open mind comes in. This is an Old Fishing Camp Cabin, so use your imagination. We used the fire pit almost every night with the firewood provided, it was Awesome. We made smores and watched shooting stars and just enjoyed the bright moon over the calm waters. We accessed the water by climbing down the boulders, not hard, just have to take your time. We also cleaned up the 2 kayaks and spent a couple of days using them which was awesome. The Bay is even more beautiful away from the cabin. We watched Bald Eagles fly overhead, Amazing. The beds are comfy, plenty of blankets, fans and heaters. We had plenty of towels as well. The cellphone reception is Not good. We had trouble getting ahold of Thomas, but we were able to do so after searching for a signal. Communicating thru VRBO was the easiest, rather than trying to text him. There is plenty to do either in Marquette or Munising. Yes, it was an adventure but, we made some wonderful memories that will last forever. Thanks Thomas.

What a wonderful location! The views were amazing and the rustic home was perfect for cooking meals, playing games, watching the sunset on the porch, and sleeping (super comfortable beds). Our family (and dogs) loved swimming and being down by the water right in front of the home too. Definitely recommend!
