Honiara, which is the national capital, is located 70 miles (113 kilometers) southwest of Auki.
The area around Auki is crisscrossed with things to do and see, from tourist hotspots to hidden gems that still await discovery. Atoifi, is 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the west, and Tulagi Island sits 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the northeast.
Spend a few hours exploring the Solomon Islands' history museums. These are great destinations to hang out, especially when the weather is less than perfect.
The Auki area offers some excellent ways to enjoy the great outdoors. Active types can join in with one of the hiking and mountain climbing adventures on offer here.
The food enjoyed by locals is an integral element of any culture and a great way to get to know a place. Two of the region's favourite ingredients are fish and taro roots. Favorite local dishes include ulu (breadfruit) and green papaya curry, but there are many other mouthwatering dishes to sample. And when you are ready for dessert, you should try green papaya. And of course, regardless of what time it is, the Solomon Islands is a great spot to ask for kava (juice made plant roots).
