Relax at one of Corsica’s most serene sunbathing spots and swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea at Balistra Beach. Discover colorful fish on living reefs and learn to windsurf or kitesurf at one of the best watersport locations on the island.
Balistra Beach is part of the scenic Golfe de Sant Amanza on the southernmost part of Corsica. Find several beaches along this stretch of coastline. They offer great places for a daytrip from Bonifacio.
Wander along the sand to find a secluded spot for sunbathing under the hot Corsican sun. The sea here is clear and shallow so it is perfect to cool off from the midday heat. Strap on a snorkel and mask to see coral reefs populated by small, colorful fish. Be alert to spot octopuses.
Balistra Beach is a popular spot for watersport enthusiasts. Rent a windsurfer, kitesurfer or surfboard to brave the waves. If you want to take lessons, the shallow saltwater lagoon provides a fantastic spot to master the basics under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Use a kayak to explore the bay and the inland pond nearby.
After your fun in the water, head to the bar and restaurant that sits behind the beach. During the summer, friendly local staff serve tasty fish, fries and burgers from lunchtime through early evening. If you have other plans for dinner, make sure you stay to enjoy a cold beer as the sun sets over the sea.
Balistra Beach is about a 25-minute drive from Bonifacio. Part of the drive is along a rough and rather long single-track road. Parking is free. Getting to the beach isn’t easy but the untouched tropical setting is well worth the effort. If you like the area, consider renting a villa nearby to enjoy the whole summer.
