Moore Cabin at Happiness Hills Farm
About this space
The Moore Cabin is a cozy, Amish-built log cabin at Happiness Hills Farm, a farm and retreat center in the Appalachian foothills near historic Berea, Kentucky. It's a perfect little getaway for couples, families (with a kid or two), and small groups who want to enjoy each other's company in a beautiful setting.
This cabin is one of a pair - the Kilday Cabin is right next door, with a shared picnic area between.
The space
The setup is very cozy and efficient. The dining table has four chairs and there's a sofa in the same area, but no additional seating indoors. The bedroom has a bed with lighting on each side, but no additional furniture. The loft is considered a second bedroom, but IT IS VERY SMALL and works best for kids - it feels like a small tree house and is accessed by a ladder. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink - no tub. The kitchen occupies a corner of the main room and contains a medium sized refrigerator and freezer, a 2-burner plug-in range, coffee maker, microwave, and water boiler. Cookware, tableware, and basic kitchen utensils are provided.
Guest access
The cabin is completely private - you'll have your own door lock code and once you're inside, the space is entirely yours. Outside the door, you'll be sharing the wide open spaces with other guests and the Escobar family. You're welcome to enjoy the creek, the lawns, the walking trails, the chapel, the campfire area, and our 10-acre lake, along with the rest of us - we welcome you!
Other things to note
We are committed to a healthy earth, and we want our retreat center to do its part. We ask our guests to join us in separating food waste (we'll compost it for you) and recycling (we'll deliver it to the local center), and we promise to plant a tree on the farm for each booking of five nights or more.
We have two dogs: a Beagle mix and a Border Collie mix. They're confined to a perimeter around our home, so they won't be visiting the cabin, but they can be heard sometimes, defending the farm against marauding turkeys, raccoons, and opossums. A tiny dog named Ari lives at Gate House, the caretakers' cottage at the entrance to the farm, near the Barn. Several cats live here as well, and they're all friendly. They take their jobs seriously, so you might see them sneaking up on wild animals like moles and mice in the fields.
