Staff were good during check in. Easy and informative. The room was clean and spacious with a large deck and ocean view. We had complimentary buffet breakfast, which was very good with lots of food choices. The grounds and buildings could use some maintenance, due to peeling paint and overgrown landscaping. Pool area was clean with a heated pool. Onsite restaurant was limited on food choices. Otherwise this was a very good place to stay as a resort in a quiet beautiful location.
We stayed at Smuggler's Cove Inn from July 16-19 and had a wonderful experience. There were two adults in our party, and our room was spacious and comfortable, with a balcony and a beautiful ocean view.
The property offers several great amenities. We used the pool once and found it clean and perfectly maintained. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant, which was excellent. They accommodated my special request without any issues, and the food and service were both outstanding. The breakfast buffet was generous and well-stocked, with attentive service each morning.
One of our favorite experiences was taking out the kayaks. We used two kayaks and life jackets and had a fantastic outing. The process was incredibly easy, and we appreciated not having to go through a complicated equipment checkout procedure. The property map provided at check-in was also helpful, and beach towels were available upon request.
The only surprise was that our room was not fully cleaned during our stay. Housekeeping did stop by once to empty the trash and provide fresh towels, which was appreciated. Since the bed and bathroom remained in good shape, this wasn't a major issue for us.
If you're looking for a property that feels brand new and ultra-modern, this may not be the place for you. Smuggler's Cove Inn has more of a quirky, unique character, which is exactly what we loved about it. The charm, views, amenities, and friendly service made for a very enjoyable stay, and we would happily return.

Room was clean with new furnishings. Balcony as stated, partial ocean view. Breakfast buffet was clean and plentiful. Good for families. Parking was tight. I’m not sure of the accessibility rating, but I wouldn’t recommend if mobility is an issue. The hotel is on a septic system. That was quite apparent whenever we stepped outside the room. The smell was terrible. Work was being done throughout our stay on the pipes. This was worse than low tide smell. We never made it to their restaurant. We did view the menu which was somewhat limited. Views from the restaurant with balcony service was nice.
Beautiful setting on the cove. Wonderful breakfast. The pool looked lovely though we didn’t use it. Room was spacious. It could have used better lighting in the room.
It was a nice clean room but I had an obstructed view of the ocean.
I sent a message to the Inn in advance asking for a room preferably on the second floor that had a good view of the bay. I did not get a response.
There were other rooms of this type that remained empty during the time I was there so I don't understand why I couldn't be moved to a similar priced room with these requests.
Unfortunate 😔
Great location. Heated salt water pool. Great hearty buffet breakfast every morning (included) and restaurant on site for dinner and drinks. Every room has waterfront view. Easily accessible as rooms open to outside. Refrigerator and microwave and keurig in each room. Beds comfy and AC unit in each room. Lots of parking and use of kayaks, paddle boards, rowboat. Not a swimming beach. Beautiful sunsets.
My main complaint was that to shower, i had to run the tub water for 10-15 minutes to get it warmed, from pitch cold. All five days.
The place was clean, in and out. The accommodations were very good, breakfast was excellent and staff very good and helpful.
I love to book places with pool, and this one was great. Weather was questionable at times but the pool was always warm, and warmer than any other places I’ve ever been. Always clean.
Never to forget the views……amazing!
We wanted to try a different place in Boothbay someplace quieter and less touristy. Smugglers inn was perfect! It’s nestled in a private cove in a mostly residential area - fancy waterfront homes - . The rooms are lovely with very thoughtful design, comfortable beds but a small bath shower. The plus is that there is a swimming pool - very clean. Another pleasant surprise was how good the complimentary breakfast was! Fresh scrambled eggs, bacon ham sausages, fresh fruit and a lovely assortment of baked goods. We spoke to the owner chef who took such great care with the food as well as running the property. No nasty weed killers that harm the environment. You wake up to birdsong. There was a local osprey who lives in the neighboring trees and you could see him flying from one tree to another. Another plus- it is close by to the gorgeous coastal Maine Botanical Gardens
Everything was great. Room was a good size and nice view of the water. We did not get breakfast which was included. Good location away from the downtown area but still only minutes away.
The Inn has a lovely setting on a picturesque cove. From prior stays, the use of the kayaks, was a nice plus (this time the weather was rainy, windy, and cold). The rooms are very comfortable, and an excellent breakfast is included in the room rate (which are somewhat high). Recommended.
The property overlooking the cove is lovely. Simple plain decent size room.
Shower was a little slipppery. Nice chairs on porch with pretty view. Good breakfast.
Love this place location staff bar restaurant were all excell

The rooms were ok. Needed a paint job. The tub was old and needed new caulking. The restaurant/breakfast was very good. The pool was great. There was tons of goose feces near the fire pit and by the water. All in all it was ok.
Our room was clean & the bed comfy. Breakfast was very good...kudos to the young lady who summoned her courage and 'took care of' a wasp in the dining room!
Parking was a bit cramped, but adequate.

Room could use a paint job and some deep cleaning. Staff is amazing as is the restaurant which was quite a surprise. Heated pool was great outside room chair are great and relaxing and breakfast was excellent.
It looks like they might be updating the property. Our room was newly furnished but the bathroom was a little older. But they are doing a good job getting things updated.

Very lovely setting. The room was fine, bed comfortable and large. the bathroom was awful. The bathtub super slippery (although there were handles to hang on to to get in); the hot water was not hot enough and took forever to heat up, so did not use the cold water. The toilet paper holder was coming off the wall, and the bathtub as stated earlier could have been upgraded. Breakfast was not kept warm the first morning, but was fine the day after. As affordable as this motel is, the bathroom needs upgrading for all the above-mentioned reasons.

Rooms need more light. Close the curtains for privacy and it’s so gloomy in the rooms. Bathroom outdated and barely warm water for a shower. Breakfast included was average. Coffee was terrible. Not close to anything- have to drive to be downtown. Really only paying for the view which was not all that… tides were low and lots of sea grass.
