In central Busan, visit Geumjeong, known for an imposing mountain, spectacular temple and various modern educational hubs. Its universities and artistic clubs are part of a rich cultural tapestry, while its scenic outdoor trails keep families entertained.
Admire the views of Geumjeong Mountain crowning the district’s northwestern corner. Hike up the mountain’s trail and enjoy the spectacular vista of the city from this vantage point. En route, check out the Beomeo-sa Temple that is perched on the edge of the mountain. One of the most iconic temples in the country, it dates back 1,300 years and plays a major role in South Korean Buddhism.
Hike toward the peak of the rock formation to see the impressive Geumjeong Mt. Fortress, which was constructed at the beginning of the 18th century. Admire the gates that were restored after being demolished during Japanese occupation.
At the foot of the mountain is Kim’s Art Field Museum, which belonged to artist Kim Jeong-myeong. Browse its intriguing collection of modern works. Learn about local customs and watch a performing arts show at the Geumjeong Cultural Center.

Geumjeong sweeps across the northern part of central Busan. It is just north of the Dongnae District and the Buk District. Ride the subway north to the Guseo Station in the heart of the area. While in this part of Busan, be sure to visit other areas such as Nam-gu, the Gangseo District and the Yeonje District.
