It was truly wonderful experience . 2 things that Need improvement . Just giving Waze to us was not enough . The first group found the place because it was day time , but the group 2 came at night and could not find us . We had to go back out . Google is accurate but not exact at times . Also someone could welcome the group . We need to figure out everything by ourselves . Maybe check on for towels and how to get rid off the garbage or recycling . If there is a care taker maybe he could come and check. We had to request things every other day . However it was a great experience

Hope to be back!
This space is amazing. A short walk down to a market, restaurants, and shopping. The hill up and back is definitely steep! Daily the howler monkeys came and hung out in the trees by the house and we got to see a plethora of nature including the dart frog, a sloth, agouti, and a ton of different bird varieties! Bring binoculars! Rooms were comfortable and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking tools, etc. The property manager was communicative, responded and addressed concerns quickly! The location is very private and peaceful. There are a few things I would have liked to have known before going. The photos of the house are slightly outdated especially the pool table which has multiple rips in the fabric. While we were there multiple individuals came and went from the house including the pool service which comes three times a week, the maid, and someone to collect the trash. Arriving we had a little difficulty finding the location with phone service being spotty and wasn't sure which was the correct gate but this really could have been an us problem as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else. When you get in the house there are about 12 keys and it was annoying figuring out which key went with which lock and they were not labeled correctly. For example twin was the front gate. There are no cooking staples except oil, sugar, and pepper. The pool was cloudy. No wash clothes or toiletries other than hand soap. I would still highly recommend and hope to return!

Great house for Punta Uva beaches
Great house for a stay at the beach! Designed around indoor-outdoor living, with ample outdoor spaces spread across two floors. All the windows are screens (no glass!) with shutters that can be secured against weather or when you leave for the day. The open design means very little sound privacy. If howler monkeys aren't your idea of an alarm clock, bring ear plugs! Saw sloth, iguana, toucans, parrots, frogs, lizards & pacas from the veranda. The house is situated up a steep hill. This ensures a steady breeze and no bugs; it also means that you are 0.3miles from the main road, with 0.1m of that being a very steep incline. Two access paths to the beach are nearby (total from house to beach is 0.5mile). The beach is beyond gorgeous with great snorkeling as well as sandy swimming areas. From the deck you can see the horizon where the sea meets sky through the trees, but not the beach itself. The bedrooms have comfortable beds and plenty of storage. The bathrooms had a generous supply of towels, including beach towels, but showers had 'ecolodge' pressure (limited to protect the supply since the house relies on water tank). The kitchen was fine for breakfasts and lunches. When we had an issue - no coffee maker! - the managers were very quick to fix it. They were always responded to questions promptly. The only down side was access: a single set of 7+ unlabeled keys. They did not to offer 24 hour advance arrival info; I only got the lock box code a few hours before arrival!

An Incredible Experience
My partner and I spent 12 days at this house with three teenagers and it was amazing. The house and bedrooms were very spacious and clean and we enjoyed the large open porch area upstairs immensely - for playing pool, watching wildlife, doing yoga, or simply relaxing as a family. The swimming pool was well-maintained and a perfect size. We did not rent a car but walked down to the main road to rent bicycles or travel by tuktuk in the area. Yes, the hill to climb home each day is steep but the house is worth it! We found everything we wanted in the immediate area - nice restaurants, shops, groceries, beautiful beaches for swimming. Communication with the hosts (an agency representing the owner) was flawless - quick responses and very accommodating. The same agency also gave us good advice and recommendations and helped us to book tours, shuttles, and bicycles - very friendly staff! Overall, this was probably the best vacation we have ever had and we highly recommend the area and the house!

The Great Escape
The property was as described and is ideally situated. It is pleasantly cool with great shade and allowed good night time sleeping ( we did not use the fans as there are a lot of screened windows. ) Wild life is everywhere around the property we has sloths , tucans and macaws everyday in the tree s around the propert and because of the elevation you were eyeball to eyeball. Would recommend

Hilltop Jungle House
Great property if you're looking for good proximity to Puerto Viejo but prefer a more quiet location. House was very clean, pool cleaned regularly, maid service once a week. Kitchen fully equipped. Bathrooms stocked with plenty of towels. Lots of wildlife surrounding the property...sloths, green macaws, agoutis, iguanas. Communication with property manager was always quick and easy. They put us in touch with a private chef service which we used for one evening. Carolina the chef was great! Overall great experience. Hill to the house is steep but worth it for the views and privacy. Definitely requires a 4x4 vehicle or motorcycle

Jungle house rental does not disappoint
My husband and I and our 2 children and their families rented this house for two weeks over the holidays. It was a wonderful experience. There were howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys and parrots and toucans and lizards and a sloth on the property. It was amazing. The space was plentiful. 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and a large outdoor area around the pool and a kitchen and outdoor grill to cook amazing seafood meals. We liked the proximity to all the different beaches and the corner store was very handy. We rented 4x4 quads and toured everywhere. The staff was pleasant and the check in and out was easy. A true Costa Rican experience getting woken at 5:00 am every morning by the howler monkeys. The open air concept and breezes at night were very cooling. This place did not disappoint.

Jungle paradise
We had a fantastic experience at Casa Tucan. The photos don’t do the place justice. It is much brighter and open than the photos make it seem. There is also an ocean view from the pool which, surprisingly, is not highlighted. Communication was as easy an experience as I’ve had with Vrbo. A couple of things to note. Guests don’t have access to the laundry machine but the cleaning person will do laundry mid week. Also, to be clear, this is not a sterile, five-star resort. It is a beautiful home located in a jungle in a more rural part of the country. There is definitely a rustic feel to the place and lots of multi – legged creatures around. Having said that, we were all surprised by how few mosquitoes and other biting insects we encountered. Plus, the location lens itself to early morning sightings of macaws, howler monkeys, and toucans. Overall a great experience and would be thrilled to stay here again.

Hard to find but worth it
The location of this property can't be beat - it is literally a jungle in your yard. There are sloths, toucans and macaws on a daily basis. The house itself can use a bit of repair ie.floor boards and showers. Any problems we had - dirty bedding/ out of propane were handled immediately. There is no signage on the property so the pin that is sent needs to be more accurate. We had a great time and would stay again- just for the location and the animals!

This is the place to stay on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica!!
Casita Tucan did not dissapoint. It took less than a day for the jungle to get use to our presence. This place comes alive!! Howler monkeys not too far off, spider monkeys off the deck, toucans, parrots parakeets, and many more reside just outside the door. The views are amazing!! I read some posts about the road into this place, this is to be expected when booking a view in the jungle and should not be your deciding factor. We opted for the in-home chef for a birthday dinner of 10 people. Our chef Jerry was amazing!! His Caribbean dishes were spectacular and his passion for cooking was second to none!! We will definitley stay here again in the future!! Pura Vida🤙

We completely enjoyed the place - it was really awesome - they stressed having a 4X$ to get there, not bad but yes, you should - the only thing which was a problem was even with WAZE and GPS the house was hard to locate and took us an hour and a half even with the realtor - there just needs to be REAL SIGNAGE -

We loved it!
Absolutely beautiful location. We loved the jungle experience and all the wildlife. The house was clean and comfortable. The decks were our favorite place to hang and watch monkeys, sloths, iguanas, and tucans. The property manager was very helpful and available anytime with a quick response. There is a small store at the bottom of the hill with a variety of products and fresh produce. The beach was a 10 to 15 minute walk from the house. I would recommend the house to anyone and hope to get to go back to it someday!

Casita tucán 😍🇨🇷
The property is exactly as advertised . I loved the house and the whole experience. Pros: roomy beautiful house with true outdoor living. You are immersed in nature. Animals spotted on property include Howler monkey troupe, tucans, green macaws, iguanas, a red eyed tree frog, agouti with baby, squirrels, vultures, parrots. Great outdoor deck with hammocks and pool table, fully equipped kitchen and each bedroom has small private bath and shower. There is a small gourmet grocery store just down the hill and several bigger stores a short drive away. Loved the peaceful neighborhood and the vicinity to so many picturesque, clean, un crowded beaches. Easy to find great places to eat nearby too and Shawanda lodge helped us with booking a tour with pick up at their place. There is a private pool which was great after a long day at the beach. So many instagrammable vistas! Kitchen had coffee , sugar, salt , cooking oil , vinegar and was fully equipped. It was fairly easy to communicate with the property manager via what’s app. Cons: you really do need that 4 wheel drive vehicle. The driveway is very steep. It is a bit of a walk down to Playa Chiquita and most days we brought the car and parked closer to whichever beach we were visiting. There is a driveway gate that jammed at times and it was a bit of a production every time we wanted to drive in or out. This would not be a good choice with people with physical disabilities as the driveway and steps are very steep. There is no AC which is actually OK. With fans and a cross breeze it is cool enough to sleep or hang out . The enclosed bedrooms all have screens and the shutters have to be kept open to cool off the space. The downside of this is that windows are open. If you want to sleep in late, bring ear plugs. The howler monkeys are very loud and the 1st few nights were camped right outside the house, there are also many noisy birds and on a couple occasions noisy human neighbors with construction noise from down the hill and a small party next door . The bathrooms were adequate but had only hand soap, no shampoo or conditioner so pack your own. Not a big deal but good to know. The other big downside is no access to the washer and dryer which were in a locked laundry room.

Amazing vacation
We had an amazing time at this home. Very unique lay out. Lots of wildlife all around the house. We rented a 4x4. Definitely need a vehicle if staying here. Roughly a 6 hour drive from the airport depending on traffic. Beautiful drive though depending on the way you go through the mountains. Not a good location for those with limited mobility. We did a lot of walking the first 2 days from the house into the near by towns. Once we figured out where we wanted to go we drive around aa little more the rest of the week. Most people would likely want to drive a lot more than we did during their stay here. You definitely need google maps/GPS to get there and back from the airport. No road signs in most places. We used our international roaming for the days we were driving to/from airport. Wifi at the house was great. Propery managers were absolutely amazing. We had a few small issues with the house that were dealt with immediately. Even had a dead car battery that the property manager arranged to have someone come boost the car for us. Amazing customer service.

So much wildlife!
We really enjoyed this property, we could watch the monkeys and toucans from the pool! Green parrots came through every evening and we woke up to howler monkeys every morning. I even saw a black and green poison dart frog in the garden! Nice central location. This house is up a very steep hill (be careful if it is wet, it can be slippery) but this means it is not nearly as hot and humid as it is closer to the ocean and you get wonderful breezes. It was very hot when we visited but we were always comfortable . Having your own pool to cool off is great. You are close enough to walk to several restaurants, the Playa Chiquita beach and a very well stocked little grocery store at the bottom of the hill. The managers responded incredibly promptly to any questions or concerns through WhatsApp and arranged our transportation home at the end of our trip. The property does need some small maintenance here and there but nothing that impacted our enjoyment.at all!

Awesome Wildlife!
This was our second trip to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. We had a little mishap upon our arrival, but Marcos was very responsive and everything worked out great! We absolutely loved all of the wildlife that we saw right from the deck of the house. We saw Howler monkeys, White-faced Capuchins, Toucans galore, a sloth, Agoutis, and poison dart frogs! This house was great for us. The house is on a steep hill, so if you don't rent a 4 x 4 vehicle, you will need to be in pretty good shape to walk up the hill. We followed the advice of other reviews and went to the little store at the bottom of the street called "El Duende." They really do have everything you may need for your stay. I really appreciated that most of the rooms in this house had screens on them, so it pretty much kept the bugs at bay for the most part. We visited the Sloth Sanctuary while we were there, and that was a nice visit! We learned a lot about these lovely creatures. We highly recommend the Ara Project too. My husband and I mostly enjoyed the time we spent on the deck of this house, since we were able to get the BEST pictures! The pool was beautiful which was kept very clean by the pool boy who came in discreetly and did his job. The management group was very responsive and has already refunded our deposit. All in all, a great trip and we can't wait to go back! Pura Vida!!

Difficult Location
The entry road was slippery and extremely steep. Even the 4x4 Land Cruiser slid off the cement strips while descending. We tried walking down and in the rain it was treacherous -- 2 of us fell. Inside the house the steps to second floor had no place to hold while ascending/descending, and with wet feet (unavoidable-- there are no rugs to dry feet after leaving pool and entering house) it, too, turned trecherous. Only 1 fall on these steps. We tried to contact manager about massive leak in ceiling above the pool table, but no one responded, so we couldn't use it -- it had to stay covered, with a bowl to catch the water. The parking area, also horribly steep, was filled with fire ants. Everyone got bit. One of the downstairs single beds was painfully uncomfortable... I think it was the bottom part of a standard twin bed rather than the mattress. Swimming pool was fun, but there was no place under shelter at the pool (lower) level to hang wet towels or bathing suits. Nothing got dry for our 3 days. So sorry to make a negative review, because the house design is lovely, the setting spectacular (with giant trees, loads of nature). But the service details were horrible -- easy to kill the ants, clean the cement road strip, install hooks, change a mattress, add some rugs to dry off feet, add a handrail on steps.

Tuscan Touch of Paradise!
Beautiful house. Marcos was great and very responsive to any questions/issues. Housekeeper was thorough and discrete. Pool cleaned daily and was always inviting. Loved the house and all amenities. Only complaint is the gate. It is not electric and quite heavy and difficult to open/close. After a full day of sight seeing and beaching we would have to get the gate open to drive the car in. I suggest the owners invest in an electric gate for the convenience of their guests. Other than that I would stay here again. Lovely spacious home and close to many attractions/beaches/restaurants/national parks etc. Would definitely return! Georgia Girl

Marcos helped out so much anytime I needed something he answered really quick. Only complaint is the water pressure is low in all showers, I believe that is just how Costa Rica is I don't think that has anything to do with house. The refunded the deposit within a day. If I came back to Costa Rica I would stay here again. Oh the hill is brutal.. if you rent a car make sure it a 4x4 and if you don't, you will get a work out walking up the hill.
