Once you've visited all of the great sights in Downtown Santiago, there's heaps more to discover in the surrounding region. Collect the keys to a rental car, stow your luggage in the trunk and get out there. Here are some drives we know you'll enjoy:

• Make your way to Vina del Mar for a fun-filled sightseeing experience. About 60 miles from Downtown Santiago, it has tons of cool sights, including Quinta Vergara Amphitheatre.
• Located 60 miles away, Valparaiso is also a favorite with travelers. Be sure to take in Casa Mirador de Lukas while you're in town. It's one of the reasons people love staying a while in this colorful city.
• Make tracks to Reserva Nacional Radal Siete Tazas to discover some local nature. Take a picnic to enjoy or just relax in the fresh air. From Downtown Santiago, it's roughly 140 miles away.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Chile, then you might need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. It's also important to note that if an IDP is required, it has no validity on its own. You'll have to show your current license your passport and other forms of identification as well.
