After you've been to all of the interesting places in Montevideo, there's loads more to discover in the surrounding region. Collect the keys to a rental car, toss your bags in the trunk and get on the road. We've pulled together some road trips you're sure to love:

• Head off to Cuernavaca for a fantastic sightseeing adventure. Approximately 40 miles from Montevideo, it has lots of inspiring sights such as Cuauhnahuac Regional Museum.

If you don't possess a driver's license issued in Mexico, then you may need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country to be able to rent a car. It's also important to note that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own.
