"Lodging Options on Carenero Island are quite limited. We are really fortunate that we chooses the Hotel Dona Mara. The delightful owners, English speaking, are very proud of their property, keeping everything very clean, including the nice sandy beach directly in front. "Don't get lured by the nice pictures. They were purposely boosted up. The hotel is located on a small island surrounded by the locals' cabins and a school. From and to Bocas town the only way is by water taxi $1 per capita ($2 at night). The land entrance is an alleyway leading to the local community. "Buccaneer was more or less what we expected based on other reviews. It worked for our family because we wanted an affordable option right on the beach (not just a dock over the water) because our kids are little (2 and 4). As mentioned by other reviewers the free breakfast at Bibi’s restaurant was frustrating because they never opened before 9 and our kids were hangry by then.
