About this property

Villa Erato in Stalos in Secluded Place with Pool, BBQ, Jacuzzi, Sea Views

  • Please read about the mandatory Greece's Tourist Tax before you book!

There is one extra cost that is NOT included in the price shown here.

Greece charges a government tourist tax on every hotel and rental in the country, called the Climate Crisis Resilience Fee.

Because of the way this property connects to the booking site, the site does not collect this tax, and the price you see does not include it. Whatever the platform shows as "taxes and fees" does NOT cover this charge.

This is not income for us. It is only the government's tax, passed on exactly as it is set. We charge it to your card ahead of your stay, so there is nothing to pay, sign, or hand over when you arrive. You receive an official receipt.

The amount is set by the government, per night, for the whole villa, not per person:

15 EUR a night from April to October

4 EUR a night from November to March

It is one flat amount for the whole villa, the same however many of you stay, and the money goes to Greece's national fund for climate and disaster recovery.

Check in is by self check in using a secure keybox, which lets you arrive on your own schedule without waiting for anyone. We send clear step by step instructions before arrival, and a member of our team is always reachable by message if you would like any help during check in. If you would prefer a personal welcome instead, let us know in advance and we will arrange to greet you in person where possible.

Check in is self check in via a secure keybox just outside the villa. We send step by step instructions and the code before arrival, and ask you to scramble the code afterwards. Standard check in is from 4:00 PM and checkout is by 10:00 AM, earlier or later sometimes possible on request. Quiet hours follow Greek law: 3:00 to 5:30 PM and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM from April to September, and 3:30 to 5:30 PM and 10:00 PM to 7:30 AM from October to March. Please keep music and gatherings low then. Electricity and air conditioning are included. Please switch off the AC and other heavy appliances when you are out. Stays of seven nights or more include a free weekly clean and full linen change. If anything is not right, message us during your stay so we can put it right. At checkout, please run the dishwasher, switch off lights and AC, close the windows and doors, take rubbish to the nearby municipal bins, and return the keys to the keybox. Guests follow Greek law and the platform's terms.

Cleaning and service: Stays of seven (7) nights or more include a free weekly refresh: floors mopped, rubbish out, and all bed, bathroom and towel linen changed, at a time we agree with you. Prefer no one in the rooms? We can do a linen and towels swap only. Shorter stays or extra cleans, just ask. Our seasonal summer pool: The pool is seasonal, open and ready from around 20 May to 20 October. In the shoulder weeks either side, opening depends on weather and preparation and cannot be guaranteed, so if the pool matters and you are booking close to arrival, message us first for honest confirmation. It is drained over winter (late October to mid May) as normal Mediterranean maintenance. We clean it twice weekly in season, and a quick shower before swimming keeps the water lovely. Internet: Fast satellite broadband, around 49 Mbps, easily handling 2K streaming and video calls on several devices at once. Wi Fi and wired Ethernet are both available, and wired is best for work calls. Please leave the Wi Fi extenders where they are. Speed can vary with weather and load, so if you need heavy uninterrupted connectivity for work, message us before booking. Quiet hours (Greek law, local time). 1 Apr to 30 Sep: 3:00 to 5:30 PM and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. 1 Oct to 31 Mar: 3:30 to 5:30 PM and 10:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Please avoid loud music and noisy gatherings then. Greek essentials: Plumbing is narrow, so nothing goes down the toilet; use the lidded bin provided, emptied with housekeeping. Indoor taps are drinking water, while garden and pool water is non potable. Being rural, the odd insect indoors is normal in summer despite regular professional pest control, so just store food well. Local tradespeople rarely work Sundays or holidays, so a same day repair is not always possible, and the area can have brief municipal power or water cuts outside our control. Winter stays include a starter batch of firewood. Checkout is usually at 10:00 AM, flexible but depending on availability. Upon checkout: Gather used towels, run the dishwasher, switch off lights and AC, close up, take rubbish to the nearby municipal bins, and return the keys to the keybox. Full steps are sent before arrival, and a later checkout is sometimes possible, just ask.

Villa Erato sits just 7 km west of Chania, which makes it an easy base for the whole island as well as a place you will be reluctant to leave. Stalos itself is a lively seaside town full of cafes, tavernas and bars, and the sandy beach of Kato Stalos has earned a blue flag for its cleanliness, a short drive downhill from the villa. Spend your days exploring Chania old town, the harbour and the beaches further west, and your evenings strolling the promenade with a plate of fresh Cretan food in front of you. Regular public transport runs to and from the city centre when you would rather leave the car behind. A small piece of local colour: by legend, Stalos takes its name from Talos, the bronze giant who circled Crete three times a day to guard it and who, the story goes, made his home here. A more sober version traces the name to the Greek verb stalizo, to stop and rest in the shade, which is roughly what flocks once did here under the trees, and very much what you will come to do by the pool. The English word stall shares the same root. Whether you have come to do everything or nothing at all, Villa Erato gives you the comfortable, sun filled base to do it from. We look forward to welcoming you to our corner of Crete.

Villa Erato sits in a private, rural location, and the seclusion that defines the property comes with one practical consideration: bus access requires a walk of around 45 minutes in either direction, along roads with no pedestrian pavement. The nearest stop for non urban routes along the coast is in Lower Stalos, around 3.5 kilometres to the north. The nearest stop for urban routes into Chania city is in Galatas, around 45 minutes to the east. Which direction you walk depends on where you are heading. For most guests, a car is the most practical way to explore the island. Western Crete rewards driving, and distances are short: Chania old town is just seven kilometres away, the beach is a five minute drive downhill, and the nearest mini market is in Lower Stalos, approximately 3.5 kilometres from the villa and less than ten minutes by car. A larger supermarket is in Agia, around 4 kilometres away and also under ten minutes by car. Most guests find it easiest to combine a shopping stop with a drive to the beach or town rather than making a dedicated trip. Guests who prefer not to drive or would rather leave the car at the villa for an evening can get around easily by taxi, which is a normal and affordable way to travel throughout the Chania area. If you would like a reliable local number, just ask us. For guests who enjoy a proper rural walk, the two routes serve different purposes. The 3.5 kilometre walk north to Lower Stalos takes around 45 minutes and brings you to the waterfront, the local mini market, and bus connections along the coast. The walk east to Galatas is roughly the same distance and time, and puts you on urban routes directly into Chania city. Both roads have no pavement, so either walk is one to do by choice rather than by necessity. If your ideal holiday is a quiet, private base in the hills with easy drives to beaches, the old town, and the rest of western Crete, Villa Erato is exactly the right fit.

Some mornings you will not want to leave the summer seasonal pool. Villa Erato sits in the green hills above Stalos with the Aegean spread out below, so your first coffee and your evening glass of wine both come with the same wide blue view. It is a traditional three bedroom villa built for easy, unhurried days: swim, read in the shade, fire up the barbecue, and let Crete slow you down. Inside, the open plan living room opens onto a dining area and a well equipped kitchenette, and on cooler evenings the fireplace turns the room into the heart of the house. A ground floor bedroom with two single beds sits beside its own shower bathroom, ideal for anyone who would rather not climb stairs. Upstairs are two more bedrooms, one with a double and one with twin beds, along with two bathrooms that lean gently into luxury: one with a jetted bathtub, the other with a jacuzzi, for the long soak you have earned after a day at the beach. Outside is where the villa earns its name. The private summer pool looks straight out to sea, the barbecue is ready for long lunches and late dinners, and the terrace is built for the part of the holiday where nobody checks the time. Air conditioning, wireless satellite internet and a washing machine are all there in the background, so the practical things simply work and you can forget about them.
