The room was excellent, bed was so comfortable that we slept in on our 1st night, leaving only 1 and a half hours to get ready for a wedding we were going to. The bathroom was lovely, a large shower with rainfall head. Very deep bath that we used on 2nd day. A great menu and restaurants to choose from. The bar was so welcoming with a great whiskey selection for myself and cocktail selection my partner loved. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Our stay Matfen Hall was excellent and I highly recommend. We didn’t use the spa facilities this time but definitely will on our return. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a pleasure

Location great, nice breakfast and very friendly staff. Parking was easy. Hotel looking a little old in parts but clean room and well serviced. Good if you keep in mind it is an older hotel.

The room was compact but comfortable. The only thing for me was the musty smell in the room. The breakfast hamper was nice with good products, the beds were comfortable. Nice furnishings in the room too

Negatives: Very dated and unclean room. Split drink all down the side of the bed which hadn’t been cleaned and bottle/food under the bed. Breakfast felt rushed (all items brought to the table at the same time). Staff were pleasant. Furniture and decor in the room looking a little tired. Beautiful surrounding area. Castle and grounds are lovely, quiet and relaxing.
