Looking for a Remote Location? No Other People? Forests, Creeks, and Sipsey!

Waterfront cottage with kitchen and balcony
Need a quiet place to unwind and relax? No other houses are in sight of the River Art cabin. You can take a relaxing few days away from the crowds and worries of our current world situations. This farm is 600 acres of oaks, dogwoods, pines and wildflowers surrounded by the Bankhead National Forest, with no neighbors in sight! Why do we call it the River Art Cabin? It sits on a bluff overlooking Clear Creek, the 'River' part. It was constructed by an artist named Art Fowler, whose original art still hangs throughout the cabin. Amazing! You may want to spend your days fishing or tubing the creek or exploring the incredible canyons of the Sipsey Wilderness. Perhaps you would enjoy mountain biking the miles of Bankhead National Forest roads near by. Love hiking and backpacking, the Sipsey has many miles of hiking trails. Love to hunt? Check out the Bankhead National Forest! You can drive just a few miles and hunt on National Forest land. Enjoy birdwatching? What about a night with no street lights for perfect stargazing? This is the place for you! If the two bedroom River Art Cabin is not quite enough space, we have a smaller Bungalow cabin a couple hundred yards behind the larger cabin. It has a full kitchen, living room, one bedroom and bath. Ask me about the bungalow if interested... it is an additional rental, of course. There is a full kitchen in both cabins, but if you'd rather not cook, hop in the car and run to Double Springs for a homecooked Italian meal at the Sapore Grill! There are two bedrooms in the River Art Cabin, the Master bedroom has a king size bed and a private upstairs deck with a sliding glass door. There is a private Master bath also. The second bedroom has twin beds. One of my favorite parts of the place is the Gazebo, a beautiful structure set atop a sandstone bluff overlooking a shoals of Clear Creek about 70 feet below. You can enjoy a sunset with a glass of wine sitting on the gazebo listening to the rippling creek below. Or wake up early and walk down the path to the gazebo with a hot cup of coffee. You can stroll for miles on our dirt roads or walk down the path to Clear Creek and take a dip in the cool waters that are a tributary to Smith Lake. Truly remote. This cottage is at the end of the road... literally! You will drive down a small country road for about 4 miles and when the road ends... you are home! Fun, beautiful, and relaxing vacation
This was one of our favorite vacations we've had. The property is beautiful and remote. It's very quite and peaceful. Maggie and Mark and wonderful hosts. They are attentive, sweet, and responsive. The "cabin" is actually a beautiful house. The downstairs is all open and very comfortable. The kitchen is very well stocked, we cooked alot and most of what we needed. (We brought our own knives.) There's a fireplace which we used every day. Maggie and Mark even left us some firewood and came during our unseasonably cold stay and brought more. The downstairs bathroom has an awesome HUGE tub for relaxing baths. The master bedroom is big and has a very comfortable king sized bed. It has sliding glass doors onto a deck that overlooks trees and a view to beautiful sunsets. The gazebo is lovely. It sits nestled in the trees about 20 yards from the house. It's above Clear Creek so you can hear the water below which is very calming and relaxing. One of the best things about the location is all the beautiful time spent outside. There are nice walks to take on the property. We loved going down the path to the secret beach and found another trail at the end of the driveway (past the bungalow) to another little sandbar. We also enjoyed driving to other longer hikes in Bankhead National Forest and Sipsey Wilderness. Our favorite was Sougahougdee Falls which is about 40 minutes away. It was snowing when we were which was absolutely gorgeous. There is no cable or wifi which is perfect for a getaway. We did have T-Mobile cell service, though. The house is dog-friendly which is wonderful. Our dog LOVED being off leach and exploring the area around the cabin. She also loved soaking up the sun on the porch. There is not anything negative to say about our entire experience. We didn't want to leave and look forward to coming back.

Quiet Retreat
A great place to relax and unplug. No WiFi or multiple movie channels. Surrounded my natural beauty overlooking Clear Creek and close to Bankhead Forest, Sipsey River, Natural Bridge. A nature lovers’ paradise!

Great secluded getaway
Great secluded spot. The upstairs balcony at night with the moon shining bright was really awesome to sit and have cocktail to.

Great Experience
This was one of the best properties that my husband and I have ever stayed in. The cabin was in great condition and had everything we needed. We brought our two dogs Lily and Coco along. The property was spacious and had plenty of room for the dogs. The dogs loved to go on a daily walk around the property. Their favorite home was to the secret beach to see the water.

Peaceful, quiet and serene
Our family spent 3 days relaxing at the river house. The weather was sunny and cold which meant no snakes or bugs. It also meant fires in the evening and star gazing from the deck at night. We walked down to the creek and my son did some fishing (blue gills) and I did some drawing. Other than Mike working on the other house, we saw no one. Perfect covid bubble. The house is well equipped and we lacked for nothing. We brought our food and cooked in every meal. I would suggest bringing foil or plastic wrap and storage bags. We followed the directions Maggie gave us and the only update is that I-22 from Birmingham to Jasper now connects. I would not attempt the drive in the dark as the smaller roads/driveway are dark, windey and not paved. I will have great memories of our Xmas family trip.
