Dear Rebecca , thank you for your review and feedback . As we mention in our listing we are situated in a 300 year old building which has undergone many alterations over the years. We are working through a refurbishment programme to improve the soundproofing where possible. The walls are wonky and the floors do creak but that is all part and parcel of the character of the historic, listed building. We enjoy the stories and are proud of the many years of guests the hotel has welcomed and hope to continue for memories to be made here.

Dear Guest, Many thanks for your review and comments and I am sorry you did not inform us of the wish to have dinner in the restaurant. We would more than happily have served you there had you asked! All bathrooms in the hotel were fitted out with baths when we took over and we are in the process of upgrading the bathrooms to include some with only showers and some with baths and showers over. We feel we need to have a mixture on offer as many guests still enjoy a bath. With specific requirements we ask that guests telephone the hotel in advance to find out what facilities are available for their booking so that we can accommodate everything in a room of their choice as far as possible. Thank you for the kind comments regarding the friendly staff - everyone works hard to ensure great service is offered to all. During these difficult times the housekeeping team have a huge task sanitising every room and all common areas thoroughly on a daily basis and frequently throughout the day. Thank you for your review and comments and i am delighted you enjoyed the character full hotel with it's history embedded in the walls and floors. Located on The Beacon gives us a lovely elevated position overlooking the bay and Exe estuary. We offer welcome chocolates in the room and have biscuits and coffees available in the bar. Any food we place in the rooms either has to be consumed or thrown away due to the covid guidelines and we hate wasting food. We look forward to welcoming you back. Andrea

Dear Lisa i am sorry you found your room small and the bed uncomfortable - we have replaced all mattresses since we took over the hotel and have sought advice from experts in the field about the type of mattress generally most chosen. Obviously we cannot please every guest with their choice of mattress. Our rooms vary in size, shape, colour and location within our ancient building - booking through an agent means we cannot talk you through the choices of rooms in the hotel - therefore we recommend guests to call the hotel direct to avoid disappointment or indeed an unsuitable room for their stay. We love evening sun in the dining room lightening up everyone's mood and are happy to sit guests away from the sun should they request this. It is lovely to be able to offer a seat wherever the guest would feel most comfortable. Parking in the centre of town is an issue everywhere but we do have free parking outside the hotel, a council car park 30 seconds away and a small car park at the rear of the building. Plenty of options for everyone and should any guest require assistance with parking we offer a map of all local car parks.
