The Coastal Walkway is one of New Plymouth’s most awarded sites. The long-distance promenade runs along Fitzroy Beach before continuing past other natural attractions including the Waipu Lagoons and Te Rewa Rewa Reserve. Walk or cycle across the Te Rewa Rewa Bridge, a striking architectural structure that locals describe as being reminiscent of a whale’s skeleton or a curving wave. Look for the magnificent Mount Taranaki in the distance as you cross the bridge.
