"Always use this hotel as a midpoint traveling from Fishguard to Southampton. Off the beaten track, but a hidden gem.
Nothing negative about this hotel for what we required. Will be back. "
"Great hotel with comfortable and modern room, great view over the river from the top floor. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had the usual selection of items. Decent location in the town centre."
"Excellent service from the staff always pleasant with a smile. Good choice for breakfast which is included in the price. Rooms kept clean and comfortable beds. Easy access to the railway station which is about a 5/10 minute walk away. There is a NCP car park nearby although we did not use it as we had a rail rover ticket. Overall a very good and well positioned hotel to base yourself from. We have stayed here a number of years now and always find it good value for money and you are well looked after."
"Hey all
What a suprise this booking turned out to be. I cancelled initially to see if I can get a cheaper hotel, but rebooked for same price(😌🙏thankfully) £80 but worth it. It's in an ideal location of Newport, motorway within a mile away. The two major Welsh cities aren't far off - even Bridgend that I visited prior to checking in, isn't far away.
The best thing about the hotel is it is operated by a family of people who care and provide the best customer service - a Pakistani family, so Muslims who book with the breakfast only option, can be rest assured that it is 100% halal. The signing in is easy and Umar makes it very quick and hospitable. There's loads of parking. Rooms are clean and very elegantly designed. Breakfast is delicious the young woman and the the chef provide excellent food and theres great options for breakfast too - thank you so much to you both. I was really impressed with the pear tree at the back outdoors as your directed to your room and the our host allowed us to take some for ourselves - the pears taste really nice by the way 😋
Forgot to mention there's not much to see in the actual city of Newport but shouldn't put you off from booking the hotel as I mentioned the other cities nearby. I'll be back at the hotel when I visit the North of Wales when I'm back soon.
Overall the Gateway hotel is a smooth one night or a weekend stay - Thanks so much to the host and his family. Will be coming again in the future. "

After visiting Newport Cathedral, make a plan to see the other sights and activities in Stow Hill. Make time for the shops and golf courses in this walkable area.
One of only six such bridges left in the world that are still functioning, the Grade 1 Listed Newport Transporter Bridge crosses the River Usk in Newport, South Wales. A landmark visible for twenty miles or more from both sides of the Bristol Channel, it’s one of Newport’s most iconic sights.
