The garden is a mixture of mature exotic palms amongst the rocks as well as wild olives and carobs filled with songbirds on top of a hillside at the southern edge of the pretty 'white village' of Gaucin. "The best view we have seen in Spain" said one travel company. "A truly stunning property with 'wow factor'!" Gaucin is 600 metres (2000 ft) above sea level and the secluded villa and pool afford spectacular open views down the Genal River valley to the Mediterranean and North Africa beyond. The altitude moderates temperatures in the summer compared to the coast or inland Spain. There are 3 'fine-dining' restaurants with a walk of less than 10 minutes and several good tapas bars and other restaurants. The villa has a double-height open-plan living room with a minstrels' gallery leading to a large covered veranda. Through an archway there is dining room which leads to its own covered, outdoor dining terrace. 4 of the 5 bedrooms and the main living rooms have French windows onto their own terrace or balcony and there are other terraces around the garden. Terracotta floors, bright rugs, Moroccan pots, comfortable seating inside and out, Satellite TV, WiFi, flowers, views, birds, sunshine! If your dates are not available, we also manage the neighbouring villa which has the same views and an infinity pool. On the VRBO website it is titled "Luxurious, Private, Villa in Gaucin". A few extra notes: \- A gardener visits very early morning in hot weather to water pots, a daily pool-cleaner, a multilingual House Manager and two lovely cleaners. \- It has secure off-street parking for 2 cars. Further cars can be easily parked nearby. \- The base price indicated per night or week is based on 6 people staying. For each additional person up to a max of 10 there is an extra charge to cover laundry and cleaning. The only negative was that we could hear dogs barking at a distance in the middle of the night.Gaucin is a very pretty little town out of the very busy tourist area of the coast. We felt safe and the town has some very good restaurants. It is a beautiful location and property. Really stunning and full of personality. Be aware, there are a lot of stairs in the property but we have that at our own home so our young girls weren’t phased and Mark had warned us when booking. Mark was a brilliant host and full of knowledge of the local birds. The views are amazing and we had everything we needed for our holiday. The property is just sublime, with views that take your breath away.Mark and Star, the owners, were incredibly helpful and thoughtful with their communication - which made our trip to Spain unforgettable. Super pool area and well established gardens ensure you can find sun or shade. The kitchen is to benefit from a refresh this coming Oct/Nov. We drove down to the coast twice to swim in the sea and enjoy the beaches and even got up early to catch a ferry to spend the day in Tangier. As for the house it lived up to all our expectations and the infinity pool was just lovely with lots of shade/sunny spots around the pool. The well stocked garden was a joy to walk around and was tended by a gardener.We would love to come back one day. Both the owners and the property manager were extrmemly reliable. Our messages were answered promptly and any concerns were addressed. The pool and the gardens are stunning! The amount of effort that goes into the upkeep of this property is incredible. The only downside of the property really is the wifi. The wifi was really only available in the living room, kitchen and balcony adjacent to the dining area. Both bedrooms in the main house were dead zones and the Master bedroom was only a faint signal that kept cutting out. I realize there was a booster but I would highly recommend adding another or reconfiguring the wifi to expand the coverage. If you want to take your property experience next level I would explore options that allow lodgers to access it poolside. I had work emails to respond to and it would ha e been amazing if wifi available by the pool. The only other suggestion would be more lighting by the pool for ambiance. (Consider maybe investing in some solar lights) We added some to my folks backyard and it made all the difference. With all that said I would still rate the whole experience 4.75 / 5 ! We were not disappointed when arriving at the villa. The property is amazing - spacious and beautifully decorated. As a multi-generational family of 9, we had all we could possibly need. Space, great weather - the grandchildren fully enjoyed the pool, wonderful walks and the most breathtaking and stunning views. When not in the water, the children spent their time vulture spotting. Mark is a superb host and helped us source medical care for a family emergency. He responded quickly to emails and was only a phone call away if needed. The area is beautiful. If you are up for driving, you can go on stunning excursions - to Grazalema, Zahara, Sétenil, Ronda, the Caminito del Rey and take great walks in the Sierra de Grazalema. Because we liked this mountain area very much, we didn't much go to the coast (just once in two weeks) but rather enjoyed the sunny days by the house. Both Mark and Esther (the house manager) were very helpful whenever we had questions or needed help with some house management. Thanks for offering this villa maravilloso up for rent, our group of eight (between 13 and 82) spent happy times here (and there is enough space and privacy for everyone)!!! The pictures do not do the location and views justice, a truly stunning place. There was ample room for the 8 guests with various spaces to relax, eat and sunbathe, and we particularly enjoyed eating as the sun set on the terrace. Gaucin is a great place with lots of restaurants and groceries available and we were lucky enough to be at the first food festival held over the weekend. As with other reviews the are a few things in the villa that could be updated, but this did not deter from the stay.
