The meals on the cruise are extensive and tasty. The guide was helpful and accessible. The highlights were kayaking among the karst formations, the sunrise view out the window of our cabin, and walking through several interesting caves. A couple of notes: 1) The R/T van ride from Hanoi is US$20 per person. 2) The 3-day and 2-day passengers are on the same boat. Day 1 and Day 3 for the 3-day passengers are the same as Day 1 and Day 2 for the 2-day passengers. For Day 2, the 3-day passengers are moved to a separate boat for the day, where you are taken kayaking (in a different spot than the first day) and caving and given the opportunity to hike to the peak of Ti Top, which has an excellent overlook of the bay. Unfortunately, it's also very crowded and chaotic there. Day 1 includes kayaking and a mercifully short visit to a pearl farm and Day 3 includes a visit to a quite spectacular cave and making spring rolls. The boat itself seemed a little old but well maintained. The food is nothing to write home about, but not bad either. The bed does not feel clean and I slept with my silk sleeping bag. The bathroom has hot water but it is crammed, the toilet paper is lousy quality, the shower cubical is tilted which meant water would leak across the bathroom instead of into the drain. Concernant les activités proposées par Rosa Boutique Cruise, j'ai un sentiment mitigé. J'ai préféré les 40 minutes de canoë dans ce décor sublime. J'ai moins apprécié la visite des grottes ravagées par les hordes de touristes qui deferlent quotidiennement. Les activités à bord après 20h30 sont inexistantes. Oubliées les promesses de squid fishing, les karaokés, les jeux de société. A part aller se coucher, il n'y a rien à faire. Concernant les repas, nous nous sommes bien régalés. Les plats sont très diversifiés et peuvent convenir à tout le monde. Halong Bay was beautiful, and well worth the visit, but would we go again, no we wouldn't. The area is far too commercialised and the cleanliness of the area needs to be improved. Minh (our tour guide) and his wonderful staff were so friendly and warm and made our experience an amazing time on our overnight cruise. Because we had a small group, they went out of their way to make everyone feel included and part of a fun group, throwing us a holiday party and adding various surprises throughout the cruise. They were also very accommodating as we had to catch a flight and handled all our return logistics without a hitch. My x2 teenage sons and I were part of a group of 14 people from around the world. Tom Tom our guide was very knowledgeable, fun and always asking if she could assist us further. The cabins were large with very comfortable beds, good showers and air conditioning available. The views were spectacular. The kayaking and cave visit a worthwhile bonus. There was a wide variety of excellent food at all meals. This tour provided personal attention and was not a mass production or a party boat.
