Located just offshore on a small island, Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is a 30-minute train ride from downtown Yokohama. Aqua Museum is the star attraction. It’s among the largest of Japan’s aquariums and features about 120,000 sea creatures and 700 species. See polar bears and penguins from the icy seas of the Arctic and Antarctic. When the facility was shut down during the Covid-19 crisis, these penguins were videoed while allowed to roam free and became international celebrities.

Watch as 50,000 sardines swim and sparkle in a way that resembles a light show in one large tank. In another, admire creatures that lurk in the night sea, such as sharks and rays. Get close to warm coral reefs that house turtles and bright tropical fish. Found in the local waters of Hakkeijima, Tokyo Bay and Sagami Bay, unique creatures swim among eelgrass beds and seaweed.

Head to the Aqua Stadium to cheer as dolphins flip through the air. In the Aqua Theater, learn all about marine environments on a hemispherical dome screen with surround stereoscopic images. Keep the educational journey going with guided tours and feeding experiences at Forestrium. Here, you’ll meet red pandas and prairie dogs.

When it’s time for thrills, Pleasure Land is the place to find them. The Leviathan roller coaster juts out over the sea for a heart-pumping experience with incredible views. Hop in a tube-shaped boat to enjoy Aquaride, where pirates attack with water cannons. If you’re traveling with small children, they’ll love the traditional merry-go-round, along with the three-dimensional maze.

Monday Apartments in Hamamatsucho was a perfect choice for our trip to Tokyo. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was in a quiet neighborhood close to multiple transportation options. Highly recommend!

Very nice hotel and staff-we booked this last minute and did not realize how fancy it would be- we were very under dressed, even for walking through the lobby. They had 1 restaurant listed as casual dining so we thought we would go, but it was also very fancy! So make sure you have nice clothes if you want to stay there!
