"A great option for a family stay in Basel. We were travelling from the UK. Could sleep up to 6 comfortably but only one bedroom - with two double beds. Living room had 3 sofa beds - instructions provided to allow them to be flattened. Apartment was clean. "Check in took forever as not enough staff and the valet parking was not available despite the sign. The sauna was supposed to be warm until 10pm but was already room temp at 8pm (if ever switched on). Hallways and some parts of the hotel looked tired. Staff was very friendly and forthcoming, though."

"I have regularly stopped in the Carat hotel in Rüdesheim and had great service. That is now closed and I took a different route back from Italy to the UK and stopped at Weil. The hotel was a bit tired but friendly with a big room. There were no USB points but that’s not unusual. I was disappointed in taking dinner there that there was only a Mexican Style restaurant where it was difficult to avoid very spicy food but had I not dined so late that would have been fine. Parking was good and location convenient being close to the motorway. Breakfast was the usual Carat offer which I quite like…I’m sad Rüdesheim (Die Trauben) has gone…."

"A very nice property. The tram to Old City, railroad station, etc is just outside the door. And the hotel provides a pass to ride it for your entire stay. The front desk was extremely helpful. The breakfast was worth the cost. It included fresh to order eggs and such. As well as help yourself foods. Note that the hotel is owned by a foundation that provides supervised occupational training to slightly mentally challenged youth. We found that an unexpected plus."

"Great location. So close to the train station. We had some day trips planned so it was perfect we were able to get off the train and drop our luggage off. The staff was very helpful and let usdrop the bags off early. My room was updated clean and modern. I did not have an outlet in the bathroom so it was a bit of a challenge to blow dry and flat iron my hair :-) also a bit tricky the blinds Have a power switch but you can't see what they are doing from where the switch is located. We figured it out though. Very good value and walking distance to lots of shops. Only major drawback was the noise! Even with Windows closed there was a lot of screaming yelling and dogs barking. Probably bars around? Not sure but we were so tired we still fell asleep"

"Expedia fails to protect its customers when the service is not delivered as expected. During our stay, renovation work started directly above our room at 7:00 a.m. without any prior notice. The noise was extremely loud, woke us up immediately, and made it impossible to return to sleep. This significantly impacted our stay and our ability to use the room for its primary purpose. This was meant to be a short vacation to rest, but instead it was disrupted in a way that made it impossible to relax. We reported the issue to reception as soon as it opened at 8:00 a.m., after trying unsuccessfully to rest for an hour. The solutions offered were not practical, as the disruption had already occurred. The hotel staff acknowledged the issue on site and indicated that compensation would be provided. However, after our departure, they refused to offer any compensation or resolution. What is particularly disappointing is how this situation was handled by Expedia. Despite clear evidence of a service failure, the case was treated as a standard cancellation request rather than “service not provided as expected.” The case was closed based solely on the property’s response, without addressing the actual issue. As the issue remains unresolved, I have initiated a chargeback process with my bank due to the failure to provide the service as expected."
