The Megaron is a beautiful hotel with comfy beds and everything and everywhere was immaculate; I think you could have eaten off the floor of the lobby bathroom. The breakfast spread was a daily work of art not to mention the best orange juice I've ever had. A nice, filling, leisurely breakfast formed the solid foundation of many good days.
What really made the Megaron special was the staff. Every single person we interacted with, including at both restaurants, could not have been nicer or more helpful. We visited over Thanksgiving, so off season, and I feel like we got way more value than we paid for. I was a little sad the pool was already closed but, to be fair, it would have been a pretty chilly swim. The hotel location is easy to drive to and a convenient to walk to everything we wanted to do, plus just steps away from a city bus that takes you straight to Knossos for just 2.50.
My only words of warning are that the jacuzzi tub in our room was tricky to climb in and out of so keep that in mind if your mobility is restricted, also they don't provide conditioner along with the shampoo so pack accordingly.
I loved the Megaron, Heraklion, and Crete in general. Two thumbs up!
