Good time but one sour note you need to know about
My wife and I enjoyed our stay overall, staff very helpful providing any amenities, lovely garden patio, great location on Main St. Only real sour note was at the very end of our trip...all info says complementary breakfast provided as part of the price we paid for room but when we arrived for breakfast we were notified that we had to pay for breakfast because we went thru hotels.com...staff should have told us that...
Lexi did a great job at front desk
Quickly registered us and made a restaurant reservation in advance for us with. Preemptive phone call the day before so we wouldn’t get shut out. At reduced capacity restaurants.
Efficient and friendly.
great staff, friendly and helpful. Roman in the dining room did great work. big room.

Underwhelmed at The Highlands Inn
The Inn itself is charming. The room needs to be updated. The TV was terrible (small , with a very fuzzy picture). The carpet was dated and just plain ugly. The pillows seemed old and out of shape. The bathroom amenities were minimal at best, shampoo and lotion only. There was a USB port by the bed which was nice. It was quiet and the location can't be beat.
They would not accept our reservation thru Expedia because we have a dog with us. Dog owners can only book directly thru the owners. They did helpus find a place to stay which was awesome.
Great to not get away from the heat. Hotel as it always has been great location.

Disappointed. No wifi. Other problems.
Disappointing. First the good:the staff was generally welcoming and they were helpful with local recommendations. Our room was clean and housekeeping responded to our needs. Bed was comfortable. Hotel is very old and some would say quaint. Location is on Main Street, close to restaurants and the Ugly Dog pub (best bar in town).
The bad. The location has a negative - parking. The "free" parking is street parking - the hotel doesn't have a dedicated lot. The town is overrun during the day and evening, and so parking was difficult for us. The water pressure in the shower was terrible - it went from weak to zero back to weak - and so showering wasn't happy. Room was extremely small.
Now the ugly: their wifi simply doesn't work. The front desk said it doesn't work in town, but just five doors down at Buck's coffee house the wifi worked fine. Also I was told by a guest at the Old Edwards Inn (amazing place) that their wifi worked fine. So don't stay here if you need to use the internet. Also, the A/C didn't work properly - the fan speed was only high - the low and medium settings didn't work, and so we were up several times a night fiddling with the AC.
Also a note, the free breakfast is NOT included when a room is booked on Hotels.com.
We won't stay here again.
The location is great. You walk out the door and you are on Main Street where you can walk to restaurants and shopping. You can also walk about 2 blocks to a local playhouse that has plays and movies. Parking was on the street, safe and for our visit plenty of spaces could be easily found. In the fall the parking may be more of an issue. The free breakfast was just okay, we skipped it the 2nd morning. Room size was fine and there was a balcony. Price was reasonable for a hotel on Main Street.

I am sorry to say the Highlands Inn did not meet my expectations when traveling there this past weekend. I booked a queen room via Expedia...yet my reservation was incorrect when they called me two days prior to to my trip to confirm, and just when I thought we'd straightened it out over the phone, it was still incorrect when I checked in two days later. The woman working the desk at check-in was incredibly rude, defensive, and condescending towards me. While we were trying to get it straightened out, two separate hotel guests came to the desk to complain that they had had zero hot water since checking in a day before to which the woman said, "I've alerted maintenance, but I can't fix what's already happened." Never an apology or an offer to make this right for them. After a lot of back and forth, I was finally given my room key with very vague directions how to access my room. When I opened the door to room 43...wow...I am not normally sensitive to smells, but the stench of stale cigarette smoke was truly overwhelming. I would have had a much better review had this woman not been so rude, and I wish I could say I had a better experience, but it just didn't meet the mark for me. Plusses: the room was quiet and the bedding was comfortable.
We LOVED the Inn. Our room was so quaint and the bed was so soft.It felt like we were staying at grandmas house. Had a wonderful time and can’t wait to go back.
I enjoyed the Inn. The warmth and friendliness of the staff was very pleasing. I would recommend it to friends and surely stay there the next trip to Highlands.
The Inn was having work done so I was given my 2 rooms in the Highlands Lodge. Not the same quaitness as the Inn. I prefer the Inn. Did see a Black bear outside our room around 1030 at night, no threat so enjoyed seeing it.
Wonderful, quaint historic inn in the beautiful town of Highlands. Would recommend for older travelers without children. Great complimentary breakfast and great conversation with other travelers staying at the inn. Elegant furnishings and fixtures; fireplace in parlor; very nice antique pieces.
I will come back again. Place was clean, people were nice!! Very outdated, NEED to do some basic updates like paint at least. Just needs to brought into this century really. A few simple fixes are needed.
Roamed around the inside of the property as well and if they really wanted to drop some $$ into the place it could be amazing!! Most common areas(gameroom, dining hall, etc) are not even being used.
The staff was incredibly nice to me and my family. It was an overall treat to be able to stay here. Clean sheets and towels were just one of the everyday joys of staying at what seemed to be a family oriented hotel. It was quite the treat
We booked because this used to be THE place to stay in Highlands. The prices are still high, but the quality has gone down. The rugs were threadbare, the heating inconsistent, there was no breakfast offered with the room and only a ten percent discount if you slept and ate there. WiFi was 'way down the hall and the window shades would only stay up if we tied them to the window lock. or me, the bed was too soft and the pillows too overstuffed. My husband had no problem with these last two things, however.
I must say I am deeply concerned for the town of Highlands if they lose this grand dame of a hotel. If someone does not give more attention to this place, the only solution will be demolition and that will be a shame. Losing this place will change the whole character of the town and the main street.
This historical inn was exactly what we expected in Highlands. We have stayed in the best of the best across the world and this hotel was very good for an old historical inn. Was it a 4 Seasons? No, but we felt right at home and very comfortable.
