Reykjavik, which is the national capital, is situated 140 miles (225 kilometers) southwest of Holar, while Myvatn lies 60 miles (97 kilometers) to the east.
It's a missed chance if you limit yourself to the points of interest in Holar because the entire region has been graced with an abundance of interesting cities, attractions and landscapes. Examples of places within a relatively short distance of Holar are Bakki, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the northwest, and Dalvik, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the southwest.
Approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the east of Holar is Akureyri, an important regional city where you'll find Akureyri Botanical Garden, University of Akureyri and Hlidarfjall.
