We were actually a tiny bit disappointed that they had done away with the striped bedspreads pictured and "upgraded" to the white duvets you find everywhere else, but that was just for nostalgia's sake. For dinner we drove to the excellent Wooden Tie Cafe, just a couple miles away.”

“Truth be told…Carlin Villa in Carlinville, Illinois was not our first choice. But trying to stay at the specific places we were looking at on Route 66 proved fruitless. I found Carlin Villa on a lark and was able to book a room without a problem. “Host was excellent and responsive to questions. The loft was just as pictured. Very clean, nicely decorated and equipped. Would return and recommend. There’s a couple bar/restaurants a block away with good food/service. Also an ice cream and burger place less than a block. We had a great stay and enjoyed the town. ”
