This is the memorial in the cell where Gavrilo Princip was held after he assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. He died in April 1918, having contracted TB, in addition to suffering from malnutrition in the harsh conditions of the camp. Theresienstadt concentration camp, also referred to as Theresienstadt ghetto, was a concentration camp established by the SS during World War II in the garrison city of Terezín, located in German-occupied Czechoslovakia. Tens of thousands of people died there, some killed outright and others dying from malnutrition and disease. More than 150,000 other persons (including tens of thousands of children) were held there for months or years, before being sent by rail transports to their deaths at Treblinka and Auschwitz extermination camps in occupied Poland, as well as to smaller camps elsewhere.
