Lodges in Matathawa Island

"A super special place tucked away on a beautiful island! It is worth the trek out here from mainland, it felt like a true secluded island. The villas were wonderful and spacious, the cabanas were plenty, the staff was incredibly nice, and the food was delicious. Even though there are not really any beaches directly on the resort, you can walk to blue lagoon beach and hang out there and snorkel. The only time you cannot go to that beach is on tuesdays bc of a cruise that docks there, I wish I would have known that. Otherwise it was a wonderful quiet secluded getaway where the staff memorized our names and were the absolute best. There is also a hike you can do to the other side of the island which is only about 1-2 miles. The top of the hill on the hike is a beautiful spot for both sunset and sunrise. The sea cave excursion was also wonderful, I highly recommend it even just for the scenic boat ride! A truly unique and beautiful place all around."

"This family run lodge is perfect for people who want a quiet tropical getaway. The accommodation is basic but comfortable. We had a smaller bure on the beach, which was perfect for the two of us for 8 nights. The hammocks are great for lounging. The food was very good and the communal eating is very social. You can hike or take a boat around to Oarsmans or Blue Lagoon for a massage, lunch and great snorkelling. There is also coral to the west of the small island for snorkelling."

"Location is perfect with nice beach. Food to plain. Need to be more fresh fruit and fish. Very basic accommodation. Simple updates can make it much better. Fiji people very nice and try to help you is worth the stay. "

"Our favourite stay in Fiji. Gorgeous bure on the beach surrounded by gardens to make it private. But the best part of this resort is the amazing coral gardens surrounding it. I've snorkelled all around the world and this was probably the best I've done. The resort has resident marine scientists doing conservation, so you can learn and even get involved while you are there. As a Marine biologist myself, I was impressed with what they are doing. Snorkelling with the mantas was incredible, but what made it even better is the ethical, sustainability procedures they have in place to ensure the mantas are not impacted. Well organised and such a friendly Fijian atmosphere. Big hi to Kuini! "
