Excellent hotel in city center. Wonderful staff. Surrounding area is a noisy mess of traffic, but that’s how it is in Medan.

Normal, but noisy

Great location. Great salt water pool. Beautiful building, attentive and polite staff. Of the minuses: the rooms facing the street are very noisy, the traffic there is very dense, so it will not be easy to sleep. Restaurant prices are quite high for this city. Normal Wi-Fi.

Owner Should Be Ashamed Of This Property

You arrive - the exterior is attractive, the lobby is truly grand, you arrive at your room, and enter a different universe. The room features black mold on the bathroom ceiling (no ventilation) and seemingly on the toilet.seat, peeling and poorly repaired walls that belong in a prison, sketchy wiring, an ancient audio console that does what? and chipped furniture. Only the bed seemed to have been replaced, since the building was new, and offered a bit of comfort. The staff were helpful and friendly so no complaint there - they are working with the disaster they have

Staff was helpful & very courteous. Rooms needed some updating, all the wooden surfaces were worn & chipping, metal surfaces were rusty. There was a clump of hair left behind on the bathroom floor. Bed was comfortable, morning breakfast was very good.

This is the perfect example of a hotel that misrepresents itself on Expedia and I recommend everyone to stay away. The photos make the hotel look well maintained and new, when in fact this could not be further from the truth. The reception never asked whether we wanted smoking or non-smoking, and just gave us a smoking room which smelt like a rubbish tip. The room was terrible, no hot water at all. The condition of the room is only suitable for animals, the furniture looks 50 years old, damaged through wear and tear and never replaced. The room was repainted by someone who has no idea how to paint. It was a disastrous job. On Expedia their photos show the rooms as being so good and well maintained and then you go there and end up in a pig-sty. If I wanted such a poor room I could get this elsewhere for half the price. The shower also does not work properly and seriously needs to be maintained. The breakfast is very average for a foreigner. The breakfast is well suited for a local, but not a westerner. You order a "hot" latte and it always comes luke warm at best. I tried three times, and then gave up ordering hot coffee. We complained to reception when leaving and they said they would make sure we got a better room when we come next time. Seriously! Why would I come back here a second time when Medan has a hundred hotels to choose from. I come to Medan for business, so I will be coming here a lot in the future, but this hotel has certainly lost my business.

Manglende seng

Vi havde bestilt værelse til 3 Pers men der var kun seng til 2. Det første værelse som vi fik tildelt boede der allerede nogen i. Personalet talte dårligt engelsk og ville ikke komme med en ekstra seng. Vi ankom sent og brokkede os en del men der kom ingen seng. Til gengæld ringede de kl 2 om natten og sagde at der ikke var en seng.

A very pleasant hotel

The hotel is located in the very heart of Medan - just next to Merdeka Walk, in a walking distance to the most important spots in the city, just a couple of minutes away from the Railink. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was absolutely brilliant and took very good care of us. The only downside: we had to choose between a double bed and having the WiFi access. We chose the former, as we have had the mobile data - but it would have been a tough decision if we had not.

Familiär aber es gibt besseres in Medan

das Hotel befindet sich sehr zentral. Inzwischen gibt es wieder eine kleine Gartenanlage mit Pavilion abseits vom lauten Strassenverkehr. Das Restaurant ist am Abend zum Essen nicht geeignet, es sei denn man liebt die extrem laute(n) Karaoke Sänger(in). Getränke sind häufig ein Problem, oft ist keine Cola, Sprite etc vorhanden oder das Bier ist warm oder auch ausgegangen. Die hohe Präsenz von uniformierten Polizisten / Soldaten im Foyer empfinden wir als unangenehm. Vor etwa 20 Jahren gab es in dem Hotel auch andere Speisen wie z.B. Schwein. Heute ist es (bis auf das Bier) ein rein islamisches Hotel (halal)

Good for one night

It is OK for one night. Especially when you've just arrived in Medan and got off at the train station. It is close to the train station but you will need to be very careful when you cross the road. There is so much traffic and loud noise. You can even hear all of this when you are inside your room as there is virtually zero isolation. So bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper just like me. The hotel's former name is De Boer (reference to the Dutch period). It is located on a very interesting street. If you walk down Jalan Balai Kota in eastern direction, you will come across Tip Top restaurant (oldest restaurant in Medan), Tjong A Fie mansion, Istana Maimoon. It is not a very pleasant walk though as the pavement is always under construction and filled with holes. Traffic is one again terrible and the exhaust fumes are enough to kill an entire zoo.

Convenient enough but need to improve

Quite convenient.. but the facility need to be improved to be more modern.. the furniture, doors, key, windows need to be changed if needed.. sliding door of bathroom, windows of my room need to be fixed/repaires (room 254).. house keeping are good in service.. restaurant need bigger room especially when there is seminar/workshop..: i encountered problem with internet when connect to handphone, but it's fine if using laptop..

Hotel location is in town's centre

Hotel not be able to find my booking from check in until check out. I had to call expedia (which cost me roaming charges) as hotel not be able to contact expedia. Room aircond (room 123) is not cold as I have to sleep in another room. Some TV channels were out of signal in midst of watching (world cup). But hotel location is nice as it is near to train station, park, restaurant and shopping mall. Breakfast is ok.
