Find hotels in Mérida from $35

The best area to stay in Mérida is the city center, particularly around Plaza Bolívar and Avenida 3.

This central area is the hub of Mérida's activity, characterized by its historic architecture and pedestrian-friendly streets. Plaza Bolívar, the main square, is a prominent landmark, surrounded by the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and government buildings. Avenida 3 is a key thoroughfare with shops and restaurants.

Couples often find this area ideal for a convenient and culturally rich experience. They can enjoy leisurely walks to historic sites, find a variety of dining options, and access the city's main attractions without needing extensive transportation.

For solo travelers, staying in the city center offers easy access to public transport and a wide array of activities, from cultural tours to local markets.

The best time to go to Mérida is during the dry season, which runs from October to May, offering pleasant weather for exploring.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking in the Sierra Nevada National Park or exploring the city's botanical garden. This period is particularly good for travelers looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the region without the interruption of daily showers.

For those planning to visit during peak holiday times, such as December or Easter week, it's advisable to book accommodations and tours in advance. While the weather is excellent, these periods can see larger crowds and higher prices due to increased demand.

If you're a traveler who prefers fewer crowds and doesn't mind occasional rain, the shoulder months of June and September can also be a good option.
