Journey back in time and relax in the Bluebird Cottage of Mountain Rest Lake. Nestled in the woods, this charming lake front retreat offers a multitude of activities for peace seekers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
The newly restored 1940's cottage is a sanctuary of rest and beauty. Walk to the dock and enjoy paddling, fishing, swimming or just relaxing lakeside. Sit on one of the screened porches with your morning coffee and breathe in the fresh air. Enjoy a perfect sunset view and star gazing at the end of your day. Close to great hiking trails and waterfalls, Clemson football games (45 min.) or a visit to Clayton GA (30 min.) or Highlands NC (35 min.). There are excellent dining opportunities within 15-30 miles. Art galleries, antique stores and many boutique shops are nearby and waiting to be explored!

Lakeside cabin
I fell in love with this place the moment I walked in the door. We stayed here because our son recently moved to the area. Everything you could possibly want or need is provided. We were going to take our son & his girlfriend out for dinner but we decided to stay in & grill. We enjoyed kayaking, hiking, & just hanging out on the back porch by the water. We will definitely stay here again. Such a fun & relaxing weekend.

Anniversary get away
We came for a weekend get away for our 30th anniversary-and this place was amazing! We chose it for its close location to our daughters, one at Clemson the other at UGA. Yet once we got here, we did not want to leave! What a true treasure! We will be back! Perfect for a couples get away, clean, easy to get to, very quiet, beautiful lake and everything you could want or need at the house! Loved it!

We really liked the cabin. Everything was just as described. The property as exceptionly clean and neat and had everything we needed. I would suggest some blackout shades in the bedrooms and maybe a little firmer beds but otherwise it was very comfortable.

Beautiful cabin on lake. Wonderful place to stay and relax. The cabin decor is beautiful. Beds are super comfortable with nice linens. Cabin is well supplied. Host is super sweet. Mornings enjoyed sitting on back porch watching the ducks and drinking coffee. In the evenings family and I would enjoy the larger front porch. The fire pit and comfortable seating made it so nice to sit out. Even on the coldest nights.

Everything about this place was above average. The property owner left a Happy Birthday card and snacks. Place was immaculate. Very charming home and decorated so cute. One of the patios overlooks the lake. So peaceful. We hiked several waterfalls, ate in local spots and saw an awesome tunnel. Drove to highlands and went shopping. We will definately be back. So much more left to explore

This cozy cottage is so serene. It was a perfect getaway for my husband and I. I loved waking up and drinking coffee with such a beautiful view of the water. Ms. Barbie made everything so easy and was available for anything we needed. She really is a sweet lady; don’t think just book. You will not regret it!!!

The Perfect Nature Retreat
Our experience with the BlueBird Cottage was awesome! The cottage is tastefully furnished and decorated. Spending time on the clear and peaceful lake was divine. The neighbors were friendly but not intrusive. Mountain Rest is an awesome central location to get away from city life but still within minutes of many locations for hiking, seeing waterfalls, charming towns, and restaurants.

The cabin inside is perfect ... beautifully decorated and supplied over and above with everything necessary to function and be comfortable. We were so impressed. Our only issue was the driveway. Access to the property is on a VERY steep incline and the driveway was in poor condition ... loose gravel and required a running start to exit. Older people such as ourselves should be aware that the property itself is on a steep incline and difficult to navigate ... no handrails on the steps down to the pier. If not for that we would have loved to vacation there again.

This was just a great lakefront mountain property. In the morning a low mist covered the water and slowly lifted as the sun rose. There were a number of sitting areas and the screened porch over looked the lake. There were also chairs on the dock and they were great to sit on with some afternoon wine. Very quiet and peaceful.

Enjoyed time in this well appointed cottage. Lovely place for reconnection. Did enjoy the kayak on the small lake. Did not attempt the trip through the culvert to the big lake (as one neighbor suggested). Beds were comfortable and linens were nice quality. Thank you for sharing your cabin. And the painted signs and backsplash are delightful.

Home away from home
This is our 2nd stay at Bluebird Cottage. The addition of the Edison bulb lights on the screen porch facing the lake was a pleasant surprise as were the fresh sunflowers on the kitchen counter. The cottage is so comfortable we already consider it our home away from home. We will definitely return!!

Cozy cottage
3 days of feeling the peace of no responsibility. The cottage had everything we could need to retreat from the busy world. We spent most of our time in the screened-in porch overlooking the lake. Canoeing was fun, too!

Such a cute cottage!!
My fiancée and i stayed here for a near by yoga retreat and OMG!! The house was so cute she gasped when we walked in. The bedroom with the branch and the light's?? Stealing that idea for our house. The host had everything we could possibly think to need and more available for us. I forgot sunscreen and thought to look with the beach towels and there it was! And Barbie was super awesome at getting back to us quickly.

A real gem on a private lake!
Blue Bird Cottage is a delightful haven to spend as much time as you can. We celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary and our time could not have been better. Our only wish was that we had brought every meal and snack so with us so we would never have to leave! (That will be our plan next time...) The property was well prepared for our arrival and contained every imaginable amenity. All we really needed to bring were our clothes and food. Neat as a pin and tastefully decorated for our optimal enjoyment. There were so many nooks and crannies for alone time in reading or thoughts and of course the restful views of the lake from the screened porch and just about every room in the house. Barbie and Steve were A-1 hosts and cared for every need we had. There were no shortcuts and everything was considered on what guests might need or want. If you hike, take Barbie's suggestion of 3 miles through the nearby woods on a well-defined path with tons of sounds you just don't hear in the city. Yes - we're going back soon and several of our couple friends are planning to do the same. So if you thinking about enjoying this wonderful cottage - reserve soon! Chuck & Dee - Greenville, SC

Bluebird beauty
This bluebird cottage is so charming, you wont believe it. Besides being decorated with such taste, it is pristinely clean!! Follow the driving directions provided by the owner, the roads are lake country gravel but easily managed if you drive slowly. We thoroughly enjoyed being in this charming setting.
